Doelstelling van Toro Rosso staat nog overeind

De ambitieuze doelstelling van Scuderia Toro Rosso om dit seizoen in de top vijf bij de constructeurs te eindigen blijft gehandhaafd. De Italiaanse renstal staat momenteel achtste en de achterstand op Force India op plek vijf bedraagt twintig punten. Maar teambaas Franz Tost gelooft er nog in. "Er staan nog tien races op de kalender. De STR10 is een zeer goede auto, onze beide rijders zijn zeer getalenteerd en het team bereikt in de werkmethodiek zo langzamerhand de Formule 1-standaard."

In gesprek met Speed Week vervolgt hij: "Het gebrek aan betrouwbaarheid is er de oorzaak van dat we op dit moment zo laag in het kampioenschap staan. Als je bij negen races acht keer de finish niet haalt, kun je onmogelijk bij de eerste vijf in het kampioenschap staan. Wij zullen deze zwakke punten samen met onze partners moeten elimineren. Lukt ons dit, dan is het nog steeds mogelijk ons vooraf gestelde doel te bereiken.”

Tost legt uit waarom Toro Rosso in de vrije trainingen vaak beter uit de verf komt dan in de rest van het weekend. "Omdat we met twee rookies onderweg zijn, staat er een omvangrijk programma op de agenda op vrijdag, wat inhoudt dat onze coureurs veel ronden rijden. Wij willen dat ze vertrouwd raken met het circuit. Natuurlijk kunnen we niet met volle tanks naar buiten, dan zouden de banden direct versleten zijn."

"Bij andere teams wordt de eerste vrije training niet zo serieus genomen als bij Toro Rosso. Als een coureur al meerdere jaren ervaring heeft, is het niet nodig om tijdens de eerste vrije training op een nog 'groene' baan veel te rijden. Men wacht tot de baan sneller wordt. Daarbij pushen onze coureurs vanaf het begin. Door al deze omstandigheden lijken wij op vrijdag sneller dan we in werkelijkheid zijn."

logische verklaring. Ik kijk normaal gesproken niet zo erg uit naar de GP van Hongarije. Maar nu wel. De jongens hebben echt grote kans hier om flink wat punten te pakken. Fingers crossed.

  Helemaal mee eens, eigenlijk zijn punten gewoon verplicht met deze auto op deze baan. 19 punten tot nu toe voor STR is echt veel te weinig, ze hadden er 30 kunnen hebben minimaal.

Dan mogen ze toch stilaan wat constanter gaan presteren. Constant dat getoeter dat ze een van de beste wagens van het veld hebben, maar met dezelfde motor staat Red Bull toch een groot aantal punten voor...

  Mee eens STR is beter dan de Red Bull en als Max en Carlos iets constanter rijden hadden ze hetzelfde aantal of misschien iets meer gehad.
  Red Bull heeft ook net zoveel pech gehad als STR dus daar kun je het volgens mij niet meer op gooien.
  
  Lijkt erop dat het toch de ervaring is dat in dit geval het verschil heeft gemaakt en ben benieuwd hoe het verschil qua punten in is tussen Red Bull en STR en het einde van het seizoen.

  Jaapb, ervaring bij de monteurs is ook groot als je kijkt naar hoeveel pitstops er verkeerd zijn gegaan.

Ik zie het niet gebeuren.....Sauber inhalen moet mogelijk zijn....maar Lotus en Force met mercedes motoren, no way...aangezien Hulk en co ook regelmatig punten scoren, dan mogen ze bij STR vanaf heden structureel in de top 10 gaan rijden. Ben benieuwd wanneer de update van Renault gaat plaatsvinden...
