Jos Verstappen: "Geruchten gaan langs Max heen"

De speculatie over zijn toekomst heeft geen effect op Max Verstappen. Dat schrijft vader Jos Verstappen in zijn column voor De Telegraaf. Max Verstappen zou in de belangstelling staan van Ferrari, maar hij richt zich op zijn eigen taken en dat is heel hard rijden. Dit weekend op een circuit waar zijn vader meer dan twintig jaar geleden het podium haalde.

Jos Verstappen: "Het circuit is nauwelijks veranderd. Het rechte stuk is iets langer en één bocht is iets bijgesteld, voor de rest is het alsof de tijd stil heeft gestaan. Voor mijn gevoel is alles nog zoals het toen was. Die Grand Prix van 1994 vergeet ik natuurlijk nooit meer. Ik had bij Benetton net mijn debuut in de Formule 1 gemaakt en dan zo snel het podium halen. Dat was echt heel speciaal. Als je me zou vragen wat ik me van die race kan herinneren, dan kan ik alleen maar antwoorden: 'Hoeveel tijd heb je?' Het zit nog helemaal in mijn hoofd."

"De Hungaroring is een circuit dat me in ieder geval lag. Hetzelfde geldt voor Max. Het is een kort circuit, met veel bochten, dus hoeft het vermogen van de wagen niet doorslaggevend te zijn. Als de auto van Max het goed blijft doen, dan is de kans groot dat hij zondag mooie punten kan gaan scoren. Dat zou, gezien mijn persoonlijke ervaringen, natuurlijk fantastisch zijn."

"Tijdens de trainingen en kwalificatie zal moeten blijken wat de mogelijkheden zijn, maar ik heb een goed gevoel over de race van zondag. Het circuit past gewoon goed bij de auto van Max. Overigens denk ik niet dat Mercedes en Ferrari hier verrast gaan worden. De auto van Mercedes steekt er met kop en schouders bovenuit, dus ook op de Hungaroring gaan Lewis Hamilton en Nico Rosberg hun voordeel pakken."

"Als er dan toch een verrassing in de lucht hangt, dan moet die uit de hoek van Ferrari komen. De temperatuur is nu rond de veertig graden, tel daar voor het asfalt nog twintig graden bij op en het is duidelijk dat de banden het flink te verduren krijgen. Uitgerekend Ferrari heeft de bandenslijtage uitstekend onder controle en gezien de hitte is dat misschien een troef die ze uit kunnen spelen."

"Intussen gaan alle geruchten langs Max heen. Zijn naam is weer met Ferrari in verband gebracht, maar we reageren nergens meer op. Anders blijven we aan de gang. Maar het is wel een teken dat de manier waarop Max rijdt veel mensen aanspreekt. Dat is natuurlijk positief. Daarom moet hij gewoon doen wat hij nu al heel goed doet: hard blijven rijden."

Mag Max als minderjarige zelf een contract tekenen? Het lijkt me dat zijn vader hierin samen met zijn moeder het laatste woord heeft of mis ik iets?

  Berichten die views genereren, genereren ook extra mogelijkheden voor inkomsten. De items over Max worden gelezen en er wordt bovendien lekker op gereageerd. Logisch gevolg is dat er relatief veel berichten over hem worden geplaatst. In ieder geval meer dan over bijvoorbeeld Carlos Sainz. Dat kun je deze site toch niet kwalijk nemen?!

Ik zie weinig kwaads in deze ´ach wat een mooie tekening jongen´ anekdotes over vroeger.
