Renault niet verder als naamgever World Series

Renault trekt de handen af van de World Series by Renault. Dat bericht brengt Autosport. Het stoppen van de Franse autofabrikant zou ingegeven zijn door de komst van de nieuwe Formule 2 en door commerciële en marketingtechnische redenen. De World Series by Renault lijkt wel een doorstart te kunnen maken met Jaime Alguersuari senior als promotor.

Alguersuari voerde al de regie over de klasse van 1998 tot en met 2004, toen het nog als Open Fortuna by Nissan en World Series by Nissan door het leven ging. Daarna stapte Renault in als naamgever van de serie. Tien jaar later heeft de Franse autofabrikant besloten dat het mooi is geweest. En dat terwijl de FIA de superlicentie-punten van de World Series recent verhoogde van 30 naar 35.

De deelnemende teams hebben aangegeven door te willen gaan met de serie. Het prijzengeld voor de rijders gaat omhoog, evenals de toerentallen. Een anonieme teambaas: "Alle renstallen hebben laten weten de World Series trouw te blijven. Ons voorstel is om de beloning voor de kampioen op te hogen naar 600.000 euro, om het gat naar de Formule 2 te overbruggen of om te spenderen aan de sportscars."

      Zelfs met het budget van een achterhoede team kun je een zo'n hele race klasse runnen.

      Moet je voor de gein eens zoeken op "HOW MONEY PREDICTS SUCCESS IN FORMULA 1". Daar staan wat budgetten genoemd voor de teams (over de $500 miljoen voor Red Bull en Ferrari en onder de $100 miljoen voor de kleine teams) en een factuur van hoeveel voor Maldonado aan Williams wordt betaald ($46 miljoen) en de reden waarom Red Bull uit FOTA stapte (groter deel van het prijzengeld).

    Het is schattig dat de FIA 5 puntjes meer toekende aan het kampioenschap in de WSR, maar ze geven hun eigen Formula 2 nog steeds bijna twee keer zoveel punten (verdeeld over het hele veld). Plus dat je er minimaal 40 nodig hebt en dat haal je sowieso nog steeds niet met een seizoen WSR.

    Maar goed, als de teams en coureurs in die serie actief blijven dan zien die hetblijkbaar wel zitten.

      Je rijdt natuurlijk niet onmiddellijk in de WSR. Als je een paar punten pakt in de FR2.0 of de F3 dan kom je wel toe met een titel. De FIA wil natuurlijk gewoon dat hun F2 dit keer wel een succes wordt, en met de punten die ze geven is het de snelste weg naar een F1licentie.
