Situatie van Button geen prioriteit voor McLaren

McLaren-Honda heeft momenteel wel wat anders aan het hoofd dan het al dan niet aflopende contract van Jenson Button. De Britse renstal harkte in Hongarije verrassend twaalf punten binnen, meer punten dan ze in de voorgaande negen Grands Prix bij elkaar opgeteld hadden gescoord.

Dat betekent echter niet dat de zorgen over het pakket zijn verdwenen. McLaren-Honda kan nog altijd niet de strijd aan met de grote jongens Mercedes en Ferrari. Terwijl McLaren aan aerodynamische updates werkt is Honda bezig met een upgrade voor de aandrijflijn.

De line-up voor volgend seizoen is van later zorg. Button heeft een optie in zijn contract, maar volgens racing director Eric Boullier ligt de Engelsman al vast, zegt hij in Speed Week. "De coureurskwestie heeft geen prioriteit op dit moment. Beide rijders hebben een contract voor 2016."

    Qua snelheid zou er wel een snellere coureur dan Button op de grid zijn , maar Button heeft natuurlijk wel ontzettend veel ervaring en is goed in alle weersomstandigheden , zeker bij regen.
    Button zie je eigenlijk ook nooit in de grindbak staan door een domme fout of dat hij z'n vleugel aan gort rijdt en dan is ook belangrijk en dat komt toch voor een heel groot gedeelte door zijn ervaring

      Daarbij is het handig om iemand met ervaring te hebben als het nog niet zo lekker loopt met de auto, deze 2 heren van Mclaren-Honda hebben al jaren in f1 Bolides gereden, als er toch 2 jongens zijn die ze goede feedback kunnen geven over de auto zijn het deze 2 wel.

      JB rijdt vrijwel voor een appel en een ei rond.

      Ik begrijp McLaren's standpunt, maar het zou stijlvol zijn om JB 100% duidelijkheid te geven. JB heeft nu nog de kans om bij Williams zijn carrier af te sluiten. Stel je voor dat McLaren JB zo lang in het ongewis laat dat Williams geen optie is en dat men toch nog kiest voor Vandoorne ipv Button....

      @Sailor, Button is helemaal niet goed in de regen. Hij heeft alleen een paar keer een lucky call gehad dat het net nat werd. Net zoals Hamilton laatst in Silverstone.

      Hij gokt evenwel net zo vaak fout als goed. Korea 2012 bijvoorbeeld. Of zelfs Canada 2012 waar het regenwonder Button op een gegeven moment een volle ronde achter lag omdat hij steeds de verkeerde banden koos. 3 safety cars later en na het van de baan rammen van Hamilton en Alonso won hij dan toch de race nog, maar ook dat was ook meer in de categorie "lucky" dan dat hij nou een regenrijder is.

      @M4U Racing, JB is nog steeds een van de beter betaalde F1 coureurs met een salaris van 11 miljoen per jaar.

      Tsja hij moest gewoon wel stoppen omdat hij zo net verder kon rijden. Die auto ging gewoon niet met slicks op de baan zoals die toen was. Precies op dat moment begon het ineens veel harder te regenen.

      Of wil je serieus beweren dat hij op buienradar zat te checken wanneer het zou gaan regenen?

      De calls over de weersomstandigheden en het al dan niet verstandig zijn om naar binnen te komen worden 90% door het team gemaakt. Die hebben de monitoring en informatie omtrent het weer en de mogelijkheid dat de regen door zet.
      De input van de coureur hierin is dat hij kan voelen op de baan wat het met de auto doet maar toch komt de call meestal van het team. Het kan nu slecht zijn maar als het over een halve ronde droog is met dan een snel drogende baan heb je niks aan slicks.

      De coureur heeft hier in mijn ogen een minder grote input op.

      Ik heb jaren in de Clio cup gewerkt als monteur en kan je bevestigen dat er inderdaad op "buienradar" (een soortgelijk iets) wordt gekeken om tijdens de race de strategie te bepalen.
      Overigens is het niet alleen deze software maar vooral ook de ogen en oren van de personen naast de baan én natuurlijk de coureur die uiteindelijk bepalen wanneer het (vermoedelijke) juiste moment is om binnen te komen.
