Horner: "Ricciardo lag op koers om te winnen"

Red Bull Racing-coureur Daniel Ricciardo had afgelopen zondag zomaar de Hongaarse Grand Prix kunnen winnen. Dat denkt zijn teambaas Christian Horner. Ricciardo was na de safety car-periode de snelste man op de baan en had zachtere banden dan de rijders voor hem. Het ging alleen faliekant mis bij een inhaalpoging op Nico Rosberg van Mercedes.

Horner: "De race was bijna een kopie van de wedstrijd van vorig jaar in Hongarije, toen Daniel wel won. Strategisch beslisten we om de tweede stint op de hardere compound te doen, om in de slotfase te profiteren van een eventuele safety car. We hadden nog een setje zachte banden over, de safety car kwam de baan op en het leek allemaal onze kant op te vallen."

"Het verbaasde ons dat Rosberg voor zijn laatste stint de harde band liet monteren. Daniel dichtte het gat naar de leiders en zou er sowieso voor gaan. Hij dook binnendoor bij Rosberg, maar kwam iets te wijd uit. Nico kruiste voorlangs en ze toucheerden elkaar, een race-incident. Zonde, want anders had het nog interessant kunnen worden tussen Ricciardo en Sebastian Vettel."

      Daarom de tweede stint op hard en de laatste op zacht. Ze gokten op de SC en kregen hem. Als Nico geen "grosjean" had gedaan dan was de aanval op Vettel gekomen en had Max p5 gehad. Dus Nico bedankt daarvoor. Maar het verhaal van Horner klopt wel. Ze speelden het slim en de uitvoering was bijna perfect.

    Om eerlijk te zijn heb ik geen moment het gevoel gehad dat Ricciardo wel eens met de overwinning naar huis kon gaan..

      Ik wel. Dacht dadelijk aan vorig jaar. En als Daniel eens een kansje krijgt en de RB tamelijk bolt, gaat Ricciardo er steeds voor.
      Dus het had er misschien wel ingezeten.
      Maar Vettel reed daar ook nog.
      We gaan het dus nooit weten maar....het had gekund volgens mij.

      Persoonlijk had ik in ieder geval niet het gevoel dat hij nog uberhaupt voorbij zou komen aan Seb en ik denk daarom dat ik ook niet het gevoel heb gehad dat hij kon winnen.

    En als mn tante een piemel had, was het mn oom geweest!

    Smiley voor de leiding? Had ie eerst Seb voorbij gemoeten... en da's geen Rosberg....

    Goed hun cool bewaard en juist gehandeld/ beslist tijdens een knotsgekke race, zowel de pitwall als Danni & Daniel. Meer zat er niet in.

    Ik schat de Ferrari hoger in dan de RB, daarnaast vind ik persoonlijk Vettel ook een betere coureur. Ik begrijp best dat Ricciardo snel is en kan zijn, echter zijn inhaal acties vind ik van het kaliber de dood of de gladiolen.

    Oke Rosberg verdedigde niet goed maar de actie van Ricciardo was op z'n minst geforceerd en had niets weg van een cleane move.

      Mee eens. Ricciardo doet vaak van die alles of niets moves, die vaak goed gaan overigens, maar persoonlijk vind ik dat niet geweldig. Het is ook niet slim om zulke pogingen te doen als je wilt winnen.

      Ik ben wel blij met Ricciardo, je weet in ieder geval dat hij het hoe dan ook gaat proberen. Dat voegt extra spanning en variatie in de wedstrijd. Zonder die alles of niets move van zondag, had hij sws niet kunnen winnen. Hij heeft het in ieder geval geprobeerd.

      Ik vind het ook wel knap om zien als rijders er echt voor gaan, maar dit was inderdaad geen inhaalactie. Dat was remmen om de bocht compleet voorbij te rijden, hopen dat Rosberg hem ziet aankomen en uit de weg gaat. Enige dat Rosberg kon doen was niet geraakt worden, eromheen rijden en dan snijd Ricciardo ook nog voor hem de baan op. Daniel was op twee momenten in fout voor mij. Compleet kansloos want hij had totaal de snelheid niet op het rechte stuk om er op een gewone manier voorbij te geraken, dus meedoen voor de zege was sowieso niet aan de orde.

      Ja idd Helmop! Is er eindelijk iemand die er vol voor gaat ipv er maar mak achteraan rijden is het nog niet goed. Vraag me af hoe er door de forumleden was gereageerd als Max zulke moves had gemaakt.

      En bovendien sneed Rosberg af in mijn ogen en was het niet de fout van Ricciardo. Had hij dan van het gas af moeten gaan zodat Nico voorlangs kon kruisen? Dont think so... Niets meer en niets minder dan een race-incident.

      Vettel reed daar vlak voor en was niet sneller. Daniel had absoluut nog een kans gehad.

      Ricciardo reed op banden die hem een voordeel van anderhelve seconde per ronde gaven.

      Als je 3 auto's in een paar donden voorbij "moet" op een circuit waar inhalen bijna net zo moeilijk is als in Monaco dan kun je ook nauwelijks een "clean move" verwachten. Het is dan altijd wat hangen en wurgen.

      Ik vind het bewonderenswaardig dat hij er gewoon voor gaat en niet alleen suf zijn rondjes rijdt. Het gaat bij hun toch niet om het kanpioenschap en dan moet je gewoon alles geven voor de winst.

    Los van de actie van Ricciardo of Rosberg, had hij het niet gehaald. Hij had gewoon gedult moeten hebben en een cleane aktie moeten uitvoeren. Nick reed op de racelijn en Ricciardo had naar mijn mening die aanrijding moeten voorkomen. Als de safety car niet was gekomen, dan had het verhaal weer heel anders uitgezien.
