Mercedes GP neemt comeback van McLaren als voorbeeld

Het is te vroeg in het seizoen om de titel al op te geven. Dat roept Nick Fry, teamdirecteur bij het tot nu toe tegenvallende Mercedes GP. Zijn renstal moet een voorbeeld nemen aan McLaren, dat zich in 2009 na een teleurstellend begin sterk herpakte en nog twee Grands Prix won. Mercedes GP gooit de handdoek nog niet in de ring.

Fry: Het is voorbarig om al te praten over waar we gaan eindigen. Christian Horner van Red Bull Racing zal hetzelfde zeggen. Met 25 punten voor een zege en nog veel races te gaan is er nog van alles mogelijk. Het optreden van McLaren vorig jaar, waarin ze zich uit geslagen positie terug vochten naar de voorste gelederen, toont aan wat mogelijk is als je over voldoende middelen beschikt. Om ons nu al neer te leggen bij verlies is zeer voorbarig en onnodig.

Ik ben optimistisch voor Monaco. Niet onrealistisch optimistisch, maar ik denk echt dat we relatief gezien beter voor de dag zullen komen dan in Spanje. Het meest interessante aspect aan deze Grand Prix is de loterij die in Q1 plaats zal vinden. Iedereen maakt zich zorgen, maar het is ook interessant. Als team hoop je echter niet dat je de dupe bent van verkeer, want het is onvermijdelijk dat het iemand gaat overkomen.
