Elton John geeft concert bij Grand Prix van de VS

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten heeft het randprogramma voor de Formule 1-race verder aangekleed. Elton John en zijn band treden op zondag 25 oktober na de wedstrijd op bij het Circuit of the Americas in de buurt van Austin.

De toeschouwers bij de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten worden getrakteerd op een twee uur durende set, waarbij Elton John al zijn hits ten gehore zal brengen. Jason Dial, directeur van het Circuit of the Americas: "Ons doel is om een evenement neer te zetten dat je niet mag missen. We fuseren muziek en kunst met lokale en internationale sport en het energieke nachtleven van Austin."

"De toevoeging van legendarische superster Elton John en band aan een vol programma met onder meer POP AUSTIN International Art Show, Fan Fest in het centrum van Austin en een American Football-wedstrijd van de Texas Longhorns, belooft een episch sport- en entertainment-weekend op te leveren."

      Hoezo? Wanneer boeken ze nou eens een écht Amerikaanse band zoals de Marshall Tucker Band, dan heb je echt een gaaf concert. Deze 'Honky Tonk' bejaarde wordt alleen maar valser...

    Dacht dat men de kijkcijfers en bezoekersaantallen wilden opschroeven en nieuwe kijkers wilden aantrekken. De doelgroep is duidelijk 65+

    Nou nou Gompie. Elton John mag dan wel een ''Honky Tonk' bejaarde'zijn, de Marshall Tucker Band zit inmiddels ook onder de spinnenwebben. Opgericht in 1972 zie je nu ook wandelende fossielen op het podium staan, dus van het jeugdig elan moet de band het ook niet hebben. Laat staan van de gedateerde Southern rock die ze spelen. Ik denk dat men Elton John gewoon als trekpleister gebruikt omdat hij nu eenmaal een wereldster is en in de USA nog populairder dan in Engeland en de rest van Europa. Als de organisatie nu eens echt iets spetterends had willen aanbieden had men voor de Foo Fighters kunnen kiezen of de Red Hot Chilli Peppers

      MTB zijn inderdaad ook oud, maar geven nog steeds spetterende concerten in tegenstelling tot EJ. Maar Red Hot Chilli Peppers (overigens ook al uit begin jaren '80) mag ook van mij hoor.
