Ericsson zet zinnen op top tien na update Sauber

Sauber-coureur Marcus Ericsson hoopt in de tweede seizoenshelft op regelmatige basis mee te doen om een klassering in de top tien. De Zweed put zijn optimisme uit het feit dat zijn team op korte termijn een aantal updates introduceert. Sauber krijgt in België de beschikking over een verbeterde motor en voor Singapore zitten nieuwe aerodynamische onderdelen in de pijplijn.

Ericsson klinkt opgetogen in gesprek met Motorsport.com. "Het is een beetje frustrerend dat we na een voortvarend begin aan het seizoen wat zijn weggezakt. In de eerste races haalden we Q3 en finishten we op eigen kracht in de top tien. Daarna zijn we stil gevallen. De updates die op komst zijn scheppen nieuwe hoop. Spa en Monza zouden ons sowieso gunstig gezind moeten zijn, we doen het altijd goed op snelle circuits."

"Met de opwaardering van de motor voor België zouden we al richting de top tien moeten kunnen gaan en in Singapore volgt dan een aerodynamische upgrade. Die verbeteringen bij elkaar opgeteld zouden ons weer op het niveau van begin dit jaar moeten brengen."

    Nu hopen dat in SPA regen zal zijn tijdens kwalificatie en race zelf. Is ook het meest eerlijk, omdat motor minder belangrijk is en de coureur belangrijker en meer invloed heeft.

    Spa en Monza moeten in principe goede banen zijn voor de Sauber. Maar dit geldt ook voor de Ferrari, Williams, FI. Nasr doet het erg goed, hopelijk kan hij nog wat leuke dingen laten zien.

    Wij doen het altijd goed op snelle circuits... Dat is niet waar Ericsson de Ferrari motor doet het goed op snelle circuits en dat is nou net het enige dat niet van Sauber zelf komt. De auto is nog net zo'n groot hok als vorig jaar....
