In de autosportwereld is geschokt gereageerd op het overlijden van IndyCar-coureur en voormalig Formule 1-rijder Justin Wilson. De 37-jarige Brit bezweek vannacht aan de verwondingen die hij zondag opliep toen een brokstuk van de gecrashte Sage Karam hem vol op de helm raakte. Coureurs en teams betuigen via Twitter massaal hun medeleven aan de familie van Wilson en een laatste eer. Hier een bloemlezing.

ik zie gelijkenis met de crash van massa waar hij een veer op zijn helm kreeg. het blijft een risicovolle sport, sterkte voor de nabestaanden

  Toch vraag ik me af: hij remde wel na die klap, het is niet van belang meer nu maar zou die tweede klap niet de genadeklap geweest kunnen zijn?
  
  Ik heb niets gelezen over een doorboring van helm, zover ik het weet was het een ketser tegen de helm met dat neusstuk. Geen idee of dat dusdanig letsel geeft enz.
  
  Wie weet horen we het eens.

  @ERWINNAAR er hoeft niet altijd sprake te zijn van een doorboring o.i.d. om hersenletsel op te lopen (vermoedelijk de doodsoorzaak). Wat bij dit ongeluk gebeurd is dat zijn hoofd/nek een geweldige klap te verwerken heeft gekregen... een object van een paar kilo met een snelheid van dik in de 250 km/h het aantal krachten dat daarbij vrij komt is enorm. Waarschijnlijk heeft hij daarbij intern hersenletsel opgelopen. De hersenen zitten niet strak in je hoofd maar zit wat ruimte rond je schedel en de hersenen. Als dit gaat bewegen door zo'n klap kan je al behoorlijke hersenschade oplopen, door deze kneuzingen zullen je hersenen ook nog eens gaan opzwellen waardoor er druk ontstaat in het hoofd.

  Massa leek ook te remmen na zijn crash, volgens mij is dat de ontspanning van de bewusteloosheid waarbij de voeten zowel op het gas als de rem steunen.
