Dempsey werkt aan televisieserie gebaseerd op F1

Acteur Patrick Dempsey, die bijklust als coureur, is bezig met een televisieserie over de Formule 1. De gebeurtenissen en ontknoping van het seizoen 1961 vormen de inspiratie voor het project. Dempsey: "Het is gebaseerd op het boek 'The Limit', dat de titelstrijd tussen Phil Hill en Wolfgang von Trips beschrijft."

De Amerikaan vervolgt: "We willen de verhalen van deze mannen en hun levens vertellen op tv. We hebben nog een lange weg te gaan voordat het zover is. De vrouwelijke hoofdpersonage is gebaseerd op een echt persoon, Denise McCluggage. Zij was een uitstekende verslaggeefster en een goede coureur. De serie toont haar relatie met de overige rijders. Dat is een project waar ik aan werk."

Hill won in 1961 het kampioenschap nadat Von Trips in de voorlaatste race op Monza verongelukte na een crash waarbij ook vijftien toeschouwers om het leven kwamen.

Zoiets miste ik nog. Heb wel eens vaker gedacht over een tv serie met een fictieve raceklasse. Er is genoeg drama in te verwerken als je wat verhaallijnen uit o.a. de Formule 1 plukt.

      Nee meer als een Ferrari die er af gereden wordt door Max Verstappen of een Sainz in Monza, waarna Verstappen of Sainz in een Red Bull de komende 10 jaar domineert. Toch mooi dat dat ongeluk Jim Clark nooit heeft achtervolgt in zijn carriere.

    En als de serie een succes blijkt en er een 2e seizoen komt...? Lijkt me nog veel leuker. 1962 was Phil Hill over the hill en beklom de volgende Hill, te weten Graham Hill, vader van Damon Hill, the top of the hill.
