Istanbul Park krijgt bestemming voor autoverkoop

Istanbul Park, het circuit waarop van 2005 tot en met 2011 de Turkse Grand Prix plaats vond, heeft een nieuwe bestemming gekregen. Een autoverhuurbedrijf heeft een leasecontract van tien jaar voor de baan getekend en is van plan om daar tweedehands auto's te verkopen, stelt Sozcu.

De firma doopt het circuit om tot Istanbul Park Auto Market en hoopt jaarlijks 25.000 wagens te slijten. De bouw van de baan kostte bijna 300 miljoen dollar en was fameus vanwege de uitdagende bocht 8, een lange snelle doordraaier naar links met meerdere apex-en.

Vroeg me laatst al af of hier nog enige autosportactiviteiten werden ontplooid na de laatste GP in 2011. Zo te zien niet dus en da's best jammer, want het is gewoon een heerlijk baantje.
