Formule 1 niet in de plannen bij Circuit of Wales

In Wales moet de komende jaren een gloednieuw circuit verrijzen. De regering van Wales heeft de handen ineen geslagen met private investeerders om in de buurt van Blaenau Gwent een baan te bouwen. Het circuit sleepte zelfs al de rechten voor het organiseren van een MotoGP-wedstrijd in de wacht terwijl de werkzaamheden nog moeten beginnen.

Hoe zit het met de Formule 1? Het Circuit of Wales heeft geen licentie voor de Formule 1 en bekommert zich voorlopig ook nauwelijks om de koningsklasse van de autosport, blijkt uit de woorden van projectleider Michael Carrick tegenover Sky Sports. "We hebben geen permissie om de Formule 1 te ontvangen, maar we hebben ook geen contract met de Formule 1, dus het heeft geen zin om een circuit te ontwerpen aan de hand van de eisen voor de Formule 1."

"Het is zeker een interessante kwestie, maar het komt niet in onze plannen voor, het is geen doel op zich voor ons. Of het er in de toekomst van komt? Ik weet het niet. Sowieso kan je het als circuit niet alleen. Ons ontwerp is flexibel voor het geval dat. Maar op dit moment heeft Silverstone nog een langlopend contract met de Formule 1 en het evenement is daar enorm populair. We wensen ze het beste met de Britse Grand Prix. Voor ons is de Formule 1 niet aan de orde."

  Och Wikipedia knulletje vergeet even dat Lewis gewoon een Welshman is ook al is hij schijnbaar in "Stroud, Gloucestershire in Engeland" geboren.

  Ik noem Pryce omdat hij als geboren Welshman het prachtig zou hebben gevonden dat er zo'n circuit op zijn geboortegrond zou komen. Is dat nou zo moeilijk te begrijpen?
