F1-races op Istanbul Park in de toekomst mogelijk

Een terugkeer van de Formule 1 naar het circuit van Istanbul Park in Turkije behoort gewoon tot de mogelijkheden. Recent dook een bericht op van een nieuwe eigenaar die de baan om zou toveren tot verhandelplek voor tweedehands auto's. Dat ligt toch iets genuanceerder.

Het circuit blijft intact en racen blijft centraal staan op Istanbul Park. Speed Week citeert Sadi Hezber van nieuwe eigenaar Intercity: "De autoverhuur en verkoop van tweedehands auto's zal slechts een van onze diverse activiteiten op Istanbul Park zijn. Intercity Istanbul Park heeft nog altijd een Grade 1-licentie van de FIA, dus Formule 1-races in de toekomst zijn hier gewoon mogelijk."

De laatste Turkse Grand Prix dateert van 2011, met Sebastian Vettel als voorlopig laatste winnaar op Istanbul Park. Het circuit nabij de stad in Turkije vormde in totaal zeven keer het strijdtoneel voor een Formule 1-race.
