VT2: Hamilton nipt sneller dan Rosberg op Monza

Mercedes maakte het in de tweede vrije training voor de Italiaanse Grand Prix minder bont dan in de eerste sessie, maar de Duitse renstal eindigde toch met beide coureurs bovenaan. Lewis Hamilton gaf met een 1:24.279 het tempo aan en was 21 duizendsten sneller dan teamgenoot Nico Rosberg. Het gat naar de rest was kleiner dan vanochtend.

Sebastian Vettel in de Ferrari gaf namelijk 'slechts' zeven tienden toe op het duo van Mercedes. Beide Ferrari-rijders werden gespleten door het sterk presterende Force India. De Indiase renstal heeft een positieve vrijdag achter de rug en lijkt zich op te kunnen maken voor een mooi weekend. In de top tien stonden ook de andere Mercedes-teams Lotus en Williams.

De beste auto met Renault-aandrijving was Daniel Ricciardo op P13. De Australiër van Red Bull Racing kampte aan het begin van de training met versnellingsbakproblemen. Teamgenoot Daniil Kvyat deed het rustig aan en bekommerde zich niet om snelle tijden. Bij McLaren was het weer kommer en kwel, met technische problemen die Jenson Button parten speelden.

Scuderia Toro Rosso lijkt dit weekend geen rol van betekenis te kunnen spelen. De Renault-motor is gewoonweg te zwak voor de karakteristieken van Monza. Alleen McLaren en Manor waren vandaag trager. Max Verstappen was met een 1:26.454 sneller dan Carlos Sainz en goed voor de veertiende plek, maar de Nederlander spinde ook even van de baan in bocht 8.

Honda heeft vorig jaar over de schouders mee kunnen kijken bij McLaren en Renault wist ook wat hen te doen stond. Het feit dat het Mercedes en Ferrari wel lukt geeft volgens mij aan dat het binnen de reglementen wel mogelijk is.

Manor voor McLaren, het zijn slechts trainingen maar toch, het staat wel vreemd. En het wordt een echt Mercedes (en motor teams) feestje met de Ferrari's als bijrol en de rest als veldvulling.

  Vreemd, de Red Bull wagen (afgelopen 5 jaar 4x WK) die helemaal achteraan staat zie je kennelijk niet. Button heeft maar een ronde kunnen rijden door problemen, niet zo raar dus dat hij achter de Manor wagens staat. Alonso staat er wel boven. Dat McLaren het moeilijk gaat krijgen is wel duidelijk.

Misschien moeten de Honda en Renault teams zich uit protest terugtrekken. Dit gaat zo nergens meer over.

  Ben het met Lars eens. Het is niet leuk zulke verschillen, maar Renault en Honda zijn daar zelf verantwoordelijk voor. Het is een competitie die gerund wordt, F1 is geen liefdadigheidsproject. Als je wordt verslagen zul je harder moeten werken om het verschil goed te maken. Mercedes heeft zijn huiswerk gewoon goed gemaakt, nu de rest nog.
