Lotus: "Wij staan in Singapore gewoon op de grid"

Lotus heeft de geruchten ontkend dat het over twee weken in Singapore niet op de grid zou staan. CEO Matthew Carter liet op Monza weten: "Ik kan je garanderen dat wij er in Singapore bij zijn. De zeecontainers zijn inmiddels die kant opgestuurd en de luchtvracht zal volgende week vertrekken. Ook bij de andere races dit seizoen zijn wij erbij. Wij hebben een bepaald budget en zullen daarmee bij de andere wedstrijden deelnemen."

Ook Federico Gastaldi van Lotus is positief, maar vooral vanwege het feit dat de onderhandelingen met Renault in een vergevorderd stadium zijn. "Er is geen officieel statement op dit moment, maar mijn onderbuik zegt dat de partijen binnenkort een aankondiging kunnen doen. Als Renault de beslissing heeft genomen, dan is een officiële verklaring niet ver weg. We moeten zo snel mogelijk beginnen met de auto voor volgend seizoen."

Volgens het Franse RMC Sport ligt de bal op dit moment bij Carlos Ghosn, de CEO van Renault. Wanneer hij zijn ja-woord geeft, is Lotus definitief door het Franse bedrijf overgenomen, nadat de details van het contract afgelopen week al waren vastgesteld. Volgens hetzelfde medium zou Alain Prost samen met Frederic Vasseur, de huidige baas van het GP2-team van ART, de leiding krijgen over het 'nieuwe' Formule 1-team.
