Williams springt meest efficiënt met middelen om

Het team van Williams mag dan financieel niet kunnen wedijveren met teams als Ferrari, Mercedes of Red Bull Racing, maar de Britse renstal krijgt wel het meeste waar voor zijn geld. Met een begroting van 186 miljoen euro staat de teller momenteel op 188 punten. Dat is meer dan een punt per bestede miljoen voor de equipe uit Grove.

Daar kunnen Mercedes, Ferrari en zeker Red Bull Racing dit seizoen niet aan tippen. Mercedes hanteert een budget van 467 miljoen euro en verzamelde reeds 451 punten. Dat betekent 0,96 punt per uitgegeven miljoen. Ferrari bezet in dat lijstje de derde plaats met 270 punten op een begroting van 418 miljoen euro, wat neerkomt op 0,65 punt per miljoen.

Red Bull Racing komt niet goed naar voren in deze statistiek. De viervoudig kampioen heeft het hoogste budget van bijna 469 miljoen euro, maar zet daar slechts 113 punten tegenover. Dat is maar 0,24 punt per miljoen. Nog schrijnender is de situatie van McLaren, dat 465 miljoen euro uitgeeft en daar pas 17 punten tegenover zet, oftewel 0,04 punt per miljoen.

Raar dat het budget van een heel seizoen wordt gedeeld door het aantal punten behaald in iets meer dan de helft van de races.
Maar laten we doen alsof de huidige stand die van het eind van het seizoen is. Dan is het grappig om te zien dat je met een Mercedes motor zowat verzekerd bent van een punt per miljoen dat je uitgeeft. Helemaal als je de puntenaantal van de andere twee teams met een Mercedes motor erbij haalt (Lotus : 50 punten en Force India: 63 punten). Lotus zal wel een hoger budget hebben, maar het is hun eerste seizoen met die Mercedes motoren en achter de schermen loopt het ook niet netjes. Daarnaast hebben ze een coureur die de helft van de races de finish niet haalt en de ander neemt geen deel aan de vrijdag trainingen om de juiste afstellingen voor de race te vinden.

  goed punt dat je de motoren erbij haalt, want dit lijstje word natuurlijk sterk beïnvloed door de motoren leveranciers. Eigenlijk moeten ze de investeringen van die motoren leveranciers er ook bij optellen. Het is geen geheim dat Mercedes zwaar heeft geïnvesteerd voorafgaand aan deze motor formule.
  
  Erg slim van ze trouwens want door de beperkte ontwikkelings- en test mogelijkheden (tokens / testdagen) is de kan groot dat ze hun voorsprong lang vast houden.

Gezien de zuinigheid perikelen in de F1, (het zeer actief afremmen van ontwikkelingen en brandstof beperking omwille van gefingeerde kostenbesparing) past dit lijstje uitstekend. Goed gewerkt Williams! Nu nog 10 miljard om een competitie te hebben op dit financiële vlak. Dat zou wel heel zuinig zijn natuurlijk. Waar is je zonnige gezicht Bernie?

De budgetten per jaar zijn ineens opgelopen naar 500 miljoen euro per jaar?! 2-3 Jaar terug gaf een team als RBR nog 250 miljoen euro in een jaar uit geloof ik?

  De kosten voor de motoren zijn erbij geteld. Als klantenteam koop je voor 30miljoen motoren, maar een bouwer heeft daar het 10 voudige ingestoken. De fabrieksteams hebben het verschil op de begroting staan.
  
  Daarom klopt dit lijstje ook niet helemaal voor een zuiver vergelijk.

Dit is een belangrijker staatje dan menigeen denkt: eigenlijk zou hierop het officiele constructeurskampioenschap gebaseerd moeten worden. Winnen omdat je het grootste budget hebt is nu eenmaal niet iets wat het grootste respect afdwingt. Dit daarentegen is veel sportiever. Het beantwoordt de vraag wie het meest efficient met de schaarse middelen omgaat terwijl ieder kan blijven acteren op zijn zelfgekozen budgetniveau. Kleinere teams krijgen een min of meer evenredige kans op het kampioenschap, zoals het eigenlijk hoort. Voorts zal deze variant een druk richting middelgrote budgetten geven, maar dan op vrijwillige basis, en da's toch eigenlijk wat we willen.
