Eigenaar Istanbul Park op audiëntie bij Ecclestone

Turkije maakt echt werk van een terugkeer op de Formule 1-kalender. Het was lange tijd stil rondom Istanbul Park, maar het balletje is gaan rollen door verhalen dat het circuit in handen van een autoverhuurbedrijf is gevallen. Daarop verschenen artikelen dat de baan een bestemming kreeg als autohandel, iets wat daarna is ontkracht door de nieuwe eigenaar.

Istanbul Park is nog altijd in het bezit van een Grade 1-licentie, waardoor het Grands Prix mag organiseren. En een rentree op het Formule 1-schema is mogelijk dichterbij dan gedacht. Vural Ak, voorzitter van Istanbul Park-eigenaar Intercity, is naar Londen gereisd voor een ontmoeting met Bernie Ecclestone. Dat meldt persbureau Anadolu.

Ak beweert dat er nog maar één hindernis te nemen is voordat een nieuwe Grand Prix in Turkije een feit is. "De Turkse overheid moet een race goedkeuren omdat het een internationale aangelegenheid betreft. Daarom wachten we de verkiezingen van 1 november af. Maar het enige dat we nog nodig hebben voor een terugkeer op de kalender zijn de handtekeningen onder de documenten."

Zou echt blij worden als Istanbul Park weer op het kalender komt, geweldige baan met veel inhaal mogelijkheden.
