Singapore laat schema ongemoeid ondanks smog

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Singapore koestert geen plannen om het programma voor het raceweekend of het entertainmentgedeelte naast de baan te wijzigen naar aanleiding van de hevige smog die het stadstaatje in zijn greep heeft. Gezondheidsorganisaties omschreven de luchtkwaliteit in Singapore reeds als 'zeer ongezond'.

In een verklaring verklaart de organisatie: "Op basis van het huidige Pollution Standards Index-niveau zijn we niet van plan om het race- of entertainmentschema voor dit weekend te veranderen. De smog-situatie is uiterst wisselvallig. Niet alleen van dag tot dag, maar zelfs van uur tot uur. Daarom is het niet mogelijk om een betrouwbare voorspelling te doen over het Pollution Standards Index-niveau voor het weekend. We blijven met de betrokken autoriteiten werken om zo goed mogelijk met deze situatie om te gaan."

Het publiek zal op de hoogte gebracht worden van de situatie via de website van de Grand Prix van Singapore en de toeschouwers ter plekke krijgen informatie via de grote schermen langs de baan. Mondkapjes worden beschikbaar gesteld aan de bezoekers van het evenement.
