Maldonado haalt schouders op na kritiek Button

Lotus-coureur Pastor Maldonado kan weinig met de kritiek van McLaren-rijder Jenson Button op zijn rijgedrag. De twee kwamen in de Grand Prix van Singapore met elkaar in aanraking en daar was vooral Button de dupe van. De wereldkampioen van 2009 haalde na afloop zijn gram door te verklaren dat Maldonado nooit zal veranderen.

De Venezolaan haalt zijn schouders op over die opmerking. "Geen enkele coureur is blij als er iemand voor hem rijdt die hij voorbij wil, zeker niet als diegene zijn auto beschadigt in een poging om de ander in te halen. We liepen allebei schade op. Hij probeerde mij voorbij te gaan, ik verdedigde. Dat hoort bij racen. De stewards hebben het bestudeerd en vonden ingrijpen niet nodig."

Maldonado staat te boek als brokkenpiloot, maar in alle eerlijkheid kon hij weinig aan deze botsing doen. Button reed hem van achteren aan en schoof de schuld voor het gemak af op de Lotus-rijder, zo leek het. Maldonado reed met een kapotte diffuser naar de twaalfde plek. Button viel in Singapore uit met een versnellingsbakprobleem.

    Jenson Button, de man die vond dat je als coureur respect moet hebben voor je collega's en dus nooit mag zeggen dat je een brake test kreeg (Max over Grosjean in Monaco) zei zelf dat hij van Maldonado 'bijna een break test' had gekregen.

      Hij zei dat hij zo langzaam reed dat het bijna op een break test leek.

      Dat verandert de zaak.
      Al had hij kunnen verwachten dat Maldonado, net uit de pits én vuile banden gehaald naast de baan, even extra voorzichtig was in de volgende bocht.
      Hij had er bijv. buitenom kunnen proberen te gaan.

      Hij reed wel erg langzaam.. Het hele spul zat klem achter hem en moest uitwijken lijkt me dus niet 100% te verwijten aan Button.

      Dit gebeurde op het moment dat de safetycar naar binnen ging.

    Ik was verbaasd dat Button niet bestraft werd. Dat was zeker zijn fout. Van achter op iemand knallen....

      Dat ligt in het racen toch wel een beetje anders dan in het normale verkeer. Dan is achterop rijdend verkeer altijd fout ja ;-)

    Dit is dus typisch Maldonado, net als Perez totaal geen inzicht op dit gebied. Jammer, want het zou hun toch in een iets ander daglicht zetten.

      Culthelden, sieraden voor de autosport. Toch? Of zijn we met zijn alle van mening dat we netjes tussen de lijntjes moeten rijden.
      Alliot was altijd de sigaar bij James Hunt. Op Vimeo staan bijna alle oude races uit die jaren nog online, met commentaar van Murray Walker en James Hunt. Als je eens een middagje (of avond) niks te doen hebt, kijk daar eens naar. Dan kom je terug bij hoe formule 1 eigenlijk bedoeld is....

    Ach... Wie tegenwoordig nog verwacht dat Maldonado ooit zijn fouten zou toegeven, laat staan er wat van leren wilt... Die zal flink teleurgesteld worden.

    Het is duidelijk dat Maldonado een jongen is met redelijk talent, maar echt boven zijn kunnen moet rijden om het niveau bij te houden. Daar komen dus soms van die rare acties en situaties uit. De man verliest gewoon zo nu en dan de controle omdat hij te overmoedig, ondoordacht is, omdat hij gewoon mentaal het F1 niveau niet aan kan. De man heeft in het verleden al mensen verwond.... Maar een portie geld blijkt genoeg compensatie te zijn om hem zijn gang te laten gaan.
