F1 werkt vrije bandenkeuze voor 2016 verder uit

Formule 1-teams mogen volgend seizoen één van de twee compounds die ze tijdens een bepaald Grand Prix-weekend wensen te gebruiken zelf kiezen. De andere compound selecteert Pirelli en is voor alle renstallen verplicht. Dat zijn de regels met betrekking tot de vrije bandenkeuze zoals ze er nu liggen voor 2016, bericht Autosport.

Bandenleverancier Pirelli voegt volgend jaar een vijfde compound toe aan de reeks. Het Italiaanse bandenmerk nomineert per raceweekend dan drie compounds, waarvan één de verplichte keuze is. De teams mogen vervolgens zelf bepalen met welke van de andere twee compounds ze die willen combineren. De vijfde compound zal een super-superzachte band zijn.

De vijf compounds worden getypeerd als 1 tot en met 5 of A tot en met E. Om het voor het publiek simpel te houden doopt men de drie geselecteerde compounds voor elke raceweekend tot zacht, medium en hard. De hardste compound is daarbij steeds de verplichte keuze en aan de teams om vervolgens te bepalen hoe agressief ze een bepaald weekend benaderen.

Pirelli-motorsportbaas Paul Hembery: "We gaan na de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi een paar dagen testen op Yas Marina Circuit om een super-superzachte band te ontwikkelen, waarvan het doel wel duidelijk wordt zodra de reglementen voor 2016 naar buiten komen. Dat is de huidige situatie op het niveau van de Strategy Group. Het is nog niet bekrachtigd."

Ze gaan die nieuwe banden aan een futuristische wagen hangen; hij bestaat volledig uit gebakken lucht. Pirelli moet ook wel aangezien de teams weer eens niet mee willen werken. Maar we kunnen dus wel mooi zien hoeveel downforce opgewekt kan worden met gebakken lucht, very interesting indeed...

  Hmm....vaag. Het is toch betrekkelijk makkelijk om ergens bij een race-school een F1-wagen te huren die niet te oud is? ;-)

  Ze willen natuurlijk zo dicht mogelijk aanleunen bij de huidige wagens gezien de hi-tech die erachter schuilt en de teams zijn niet mals als het verkeerd loopt, net gezien in Spa...
  Zolang de strategy group hierin niet gaat versoepelen zal het voor Pirelli het moeilijke opgave blijven, en zou Michelin erbij komen dan zullen ze nog meer zwoegen dan de Pirelli-boys!
