Australië staat open voor eerdere datum in 2016

De Grand Prix van Australië stond in de voorlopige kalender voor 2016 gepland voor 3 april, maar Bernie Ecclestone is druk aan het goochelen om aan ieders wensen te voldoen. Daardoor bestaat de kans dat de opening van het nieuwe Formule 1-seizoen al op 20 maart of misschien zelfs op 13 maart plaats vindt. Alleen 27 maart is uitgesloten omdat het dan Paasweekend is en veel inwoners van Melbourne de stad dan verlaten.

Ecclestone schuift met de Australische Grand Prix om ruimte te maken voor een zomerpauze en een nieuwe datum voor Maleisië. Eerder dacht hij aan het verlengen van het seizoen tot in december of een back-to-back-to-back serie met Singapore, Japan en Maleisië, maar beide opties zijn niet ideaal. Het vervroegen van de start van de jaargang ook niet, gezien de geplande wintertests in maart en de planning van de teams met hun nieuwe auto's.

In Australië wacht men de ontwikkelingen rustig af. Organisator Andrew Westacott deelde aan Fairfax Media mede: "Voor ons is het geen probleem. Wij organiseren de race in het weekend wanneer dit het beste uitkomt voor de Formule 1, afgezien van Pasen. We gaan op dit moment nergens vanuit, maar de Australische Grand Prix in het Paasweekend plannen is onacceptabel." De World Motor Sport Council buigt zich woensdag over de kalender voor 2016.

Als dhr. Ecclestone dan, als het hem belieft, ook rekening wil houden met mijn vakantie. Week 31, 32 en 33 ben ik er niet en ik wil geen lap, DNF of undercut missen.
