Frustratie bij Smedley vanwege gebrek aan kennis harde band

Rob Smedley - Head of Performance Engineering bij Williams - zit nog steeds met de Grand Prix van Japan van afgelopen weekend in zijn maag. Volgens de Brit kostte het gebrek aan kennis over de harde band Williams een kans op een podiumklassering.

Vorige week eindigde Valtteri Bottas op de vijfde positie, nadat hij zich als derde had gekwalificeerd op zaterdag. Felipe Massa kende een dag om snel te vergeten na een crash met Daniel Ricciardo in de eerste bocht.

"De banden waren duurzamer dan wij vooraf hadden verwacht," laat Smedley weten. "Vooral de harde band. Tijdens onze stop kozen wij voor de zachtere band, terwijl de rest voor de hardere band koos. Dat is iets wat wij moeten doorgronden, aangezien die keuze niet goed uitpakte."

      Ja inderdaa, maar Pirelli gaat alleen maar voor de veilige keuze wel te verstaan veilig voor hun zelf. Ze willen duidelijk klapbanden totaal uitsluiten om niet negatief in de kijker te komen ten koste van wellicht spannendere races. Ze helpen in ieder geval niet met die veilige keuzes.

      Bullshit.....

      In jaren 80 had je 5 compounds, A t/m D en qualifiers.

      Na de 3e vrije training vrijdagochtend dacht ik of na 2e training donderdag moest je je keuze voor de rest van het weekend maken.
      Verschil tussen voor en achter geen probleem.

      Ieder zijn eigen strategie en vrije keus tussen de 4 race banden en een setje qualifiers per kwalificatie.

      Wie had het bij het juiste eind?

    Formule 1 vroeger: degene die het eerste over de finish komt heeft gemiddeld de hoogste snelheid gereden en of je dat met 1, 2 of 5 pitstops bereikte maakte niet uit, ieder zijn eigen strategie om de 300km plus 1 ronde of 2 uur de meeste rondjes/kilometers zo snel mogelijk af te leggen.

    Formule 1 nu: gekunstel met drs en maximale aantal kilo's brandstof per uur, banden die niet getest worden fatsoenlijk voor formule 1 (want testverbod) en je krijgt twee verplichte compounds opgedragen en je moet op allebei gereden hebben in de race (komt dan bijna altijd dezelfde strategie die het meest ideaal is naar boven bij iedereen), option maximaal 30% van de raceafstand en de prime maximaal 50% van de raceafstand dus 1 stop strategieën zouden uitgesloten moeten zijn eigenlijk.
    Je krijgt voorgeschreven wat voor motor je mee mee mag doen, blokhoek, aantal cilinders waar je uitlaat moet zitten, hoeveelheid turbo's je erop monteert.

    Ik weet het niet, maar het lijkt nu net op een clio cup klasse, alles is voorgeschreven zo ongeveer.

    Dus meneer Smedley, cry baby van me, indirect zeg jij dat jij vergeleken met de anderen jouw huiswerk niet goed hebt gedaan.
    Daar waar je nog het verschil kan maken, laat je het liggen.
    Je hebt een mercedes krachtbron en een matig chassis (mercedes ligt mijlen voor nogsteeds) dus daar ligt het niet aan.

    Nee, de banden verkeerd begrepen..
    Uhuh, je krijgt hetzelfde rubber als de andere teams!

    Bekhouden en terug naar de tekentafel en aan het werk, zak hooi

    Oww enne stuur die massa met pensioen alsjeblieft, ik erger mij al aan het mannetje sinds het moment dat ie instapte bij Sauber, het was toen niks en vind het nogsteeds niks, had in 2008 gewoon de beste auto onder z'n kont, maar mistte net te vaak en teveel aan snelheid om speciaal te zijn.

    Smedley zou beter moeten weten met zijn ervaring en moet dus geen onzin praten

      Wat een harde woorden Macgyver, al heb je an sich wel gelijk. Williams heeft geplafonneerd. Ze rijden anoniem in limbo, Merc en Ferr zijn onbereikbaar en de rest te zwak.
