Eigenaar Marc VDS bedonderd door compagnons

Het Belgische team Marc VDS dat uitkomt in de Europese Le Mans Series staakt de activiteiten in de autosport. Eigenaar Marc van der Straaten verklaarde dat zijn passie voor de autosport is verdwenen en dat hij zich verraden voelt door zijn compagnons. Hij gaat wel door met de tak die actief is in de MotoGP en Moto2, maar na het slotweekend van de ELMS op Estoril is het gedaan met de GT-racerij.

Van der Straaten: "Het is acht jaar geleden dat ik in Gosselien met Belgian Racing ben begonnen, met als plan om een ambitieus en herkenbaar raceteam op te zetten. We moeten erkennen dat de tijden zijn veranderd. Zelfs dusdanig dat mijn passie voor autosport weg is. Medewerkers hebben me bedonderd, mijn vertrouwen beschaamd en de familiaire sfeer van het team ontwricht."

"Ik ben nu 67 jaar en ik heb niet de tijd meer om gedrag dat mijn morele principes ondermijnt te accepteren. Ik ben het gebrek aan professionalisme bij sommige mensen die ik op sleutelposities binnen onze organisatie geplaatst heb meer dan zat. Ik ben de lui die niks anders doen dan het team financieel aan de rand van de afgrond brengen, bijna tot bankroet aan toe, beu. Daarom heb ik besloten dat het doek valt voor Marc VDS en mijn associatie met de autosport."
