Pirelli verlengt contract als bandenleverancier Formule 1

Pirelli is ook na 2016 de bandenleverancier van de Formule 1. Dat heeft Formule 1-baas Bernie Ecclestone bevestigd tijdens een gesprek met de BBC. De Italiaanse bandenfirma verlengt het contract voor twee of drie jaar. 

Er waren verschillende bandenfirma's geïnteresseerd in het leveren van rubber aan de Formule 1, maar Ecclestone is tevreden over Pirelli en ziet geen reden om te wisselen naar een andere leverancier.

    Ik heb misschien het een en ander gemist, maar er was toch een aanbesteding gedaan waar Michelin ook aan mee doet? Of is dat voor de periode hierna?

    Jammer, ik had liever gezien dat Michelin de kans zou krijgen. Ik hoop dat Pirelli het beter gaat doen, want naar mijn idee slaan ze de plank te vaak mis. De meeste zeggen dat ze de richtlijnen van de Fia volgen, maar ook die richtlijnen krijgen ze niet altijd voor elkaar. Maar ik vraag mij ook af in hoeverre Michelin een eerlijke kans heeft gekregen met hun eisen die ze stelden.

      Dit weekend hadden de banden in ieder geval niet voldoende grip. Verkeerde keuze, verkeerde band in 't algemeen? Wie zal het zeggen, maar er werd toch steen en been geklaagd door de coureurs. De temperatuur was niet optimaal, maar dat hoeft volgens mij niet te betekenen dat je meteen behoudend moet gaan rijden om überhaupt op de baan te blijven. Ik ben nog geen fan van Pirelli geweest en vind het dan ook erg jammer dat ze mogen blijven.
