Pirelli wacht nog op bevestiging F1-deal van de FIA

Zondag werd bekend gemaakt dat Pirelli ook na 2016 verder gaat als bandenleverancier van de Formule 1. De nieuwe deal zorgt ervoor dat Pirelli tot en met 2019 de officiële bandenleverancier zal zijn voor de Formule 1. De Italiaanse bandenfabrikant wacht echter nog op een bevestiging van de FIA.

“Er moet nog een formeel proces worden afgerond door de FIA. Ik verwacht dat dat in december gebeurt tijdens de World Council. De FIA heeft ons toegezegd dat wij ook na 2016 voor drie jaar banden mogen leveren aan de Formule 1. De bevestiging heeft een bijbehorende procedure. Daardoor duurt het iets langer”, aldus Hembery.

Pirelli heeft er geen geheim van gemaakt niet tevreden te zijn met de huidige testregels. De bandenleverancier wil in 2016 een nieuwe nog zachtere band introduceren en in 2017 willen ze de grootte van de banden aanpassen. Maar alleen de wintertests mogen daarvoor gebruikt worden en meteen na de seizoen finale in Abu-Dhabi mag Pirelli daar één dag banden testen.

“We lanceren in 2016 een nieuwe softere band die we goed willen testen. En door de nieuwe technische reglementen in 2017 gaan we de grootte van de banden aanpassen. Daarvoor hebben we tests nodig om de banden uit te testen. We willen maximaal gebruik maken van de opties van Abu-Dhabi. We willen daar ook gebruik maken van de mogelijkheid om de baan onder te laten lopen met water, zodat ook de regenbanden getest kunnen worden”, aldus Hembery.

Nieuwe regel: de winnaar van het wereldkampioenschap moet 1 van haar auto's ter beschikking stellen aan Pirelli zodat (onder toezicht van de winnaar) zij hun nieuwe banden kunnen testen met een auto die iig koploper is van het veld. FIA mag de kosten dekken en Paul Ricard is daarvoor de locatie.
