David Hunt, broer van James Hunt, overleden

David Hunt is overleden. Hunt was de jongere broer van James Hunt, die in 1976 de wereldtitel in de Formule 1 veroverde. David Hunt was zelf ook coureur, maar wist het nooit tot de Formule 1 te schoppen.

Hunt reed in de jaren tachtig in de Formule Ford en Formule 3, voordat hij in 1988 de overstap maakte naar de F3000, tegenwoordig bekend als de GP2. Echt spraakmakende resultaten bleven echter uit.

Na zijn actieve racecarrière richtte David Hunt zich op de business kant van de sport. Hij kocht in 1994 de naamrechten van Lotus en probeerde met een team de Formule 1 in te komen onder die naam. Het project kwam echter niet van de grond. Daarna verkocht hij de rechten aan Tony Fernandes die enkele jaren geleden met Caterham in de Formule 1 debuteerde.

David Hunt is afgelopen zondag op 55-jarige leeftijd in zijn slaap overleden.

Het zit ons duidelijk niet mee in"the family".
Mijn hart begaf het toen ik 45 pas en onze David heft het nu ook maar 10 jaartjes langer uitgezongen.
Hopelijk is het lot mijn zoons Tom en Freddie wat beter gestemd.
