Magnussen geeft Formule 1 nog niet op

Kevin Magnussen maakte gisteren bekend dat hij eind dit jaar McLaren verlaat. De Deen zet de Formule 1 echter nog niet uit zijn hoofd en probeert nog een racestoeltje voor volgend jaar te veroveren.

“Ik heb goede gesprekken gevoerd met enkele Formule 1-teams. Met sommige teams ben ik nog steeds in onderhandeling. Ik heb nog steeds kansen hier. Mijn doel blijft de Formule 1. Mijn ambities zijn niet veranderd. Ik weet hoe je races moet winnen en ik weet hoe je kampioenschappen moet binnenhalen. Mijn doel is nog steeds wereldkampioen worden in de Formule 1”, vertelt de Deen.

Voor Magnussen was de beslissing van McLaren om het contract met Jenson Button te verlengen doorslaggevend in zijn keuze het team te verlaten. Een reserverol voor nog een jaar bij McLaren was geen optie. De Deen is alleen geïnteresseerd in een racestoeltje.

“Ik heb tegen McLaren gezegd dat ik alleen genoegen nam met een racestoeltje, maar ze hadden al twee coureurs gecontracteerd voor 2016. Ik kreeg dat tijdens mijn verjaardag via de mail te horen. In twee auto’s passen nu eenmaal geen drie coureurs. De enige kans voor mij zal zijn geweest als Jenson Button of Fernando Alonso ermee besloot te stoppen. Dat is niet gebeurd, dus heb ik besloten McLaren te verlaten”, vervolgt Magnussen.

“Ik ga nog niet in op details, maar ik ben met meerdere partijen in gesprek. Als het mij niet lukt om een plaatsje in de Formule 1 te bemachtigen zal ik ergens anders kijken wat er mogelijk is”, besluit de voormalig McLaren-coureur.

Iedereen brandt die Magnussen zo af hier maar ik vind dat hij het vorig jaar helemaal niet zo slecht gedaan heeft.
Een paar waarschuwingen, OK, maar je moet ook het randje durven opzoeken. Meestal bungelde hij onder in de top tien maar of dat nou zo slecht is t.o.v. Button?

  Tekst hier klopt niet, hier lijkt het inderdaad net of hij dat nieuws op 5 oktober te horen heeft gekregen... In alle andere interviews staat dat hij op 5 oktober te horen heeft gekregen geen contract voor volgend jaar te krijgen bij McLaren, dus ook niet als reserve oid! Iets wat hij al wel zag aan komen, daar niet van! Maar die mail heeft hij, of dat is wat hij dus zegt, toen gekregen en niet het bericht over de rijders....

Een paar waarschuwingen, OK, maar je moet ook het randje durven opzoeken. Meestal bungelde hij onder in de top tien maar of dat nou zo slecht is t.o.v. Button?
Misschien dat veel mensen het hem kwalijk nemen dat hij Perez zijn stoeltje heeft gekregen, maar ja, dat hoort nu eenmaal bij deze sport.
Ik zou hem nog wel bij Manor of evt. Haas willen zien. Hij heeft veel engineeringwerk en simulatorwerk gedaan dit seizoen en die ervaring kan Haas goed gebruiken.
