Lowe: “We gaan naar Austin om de titel van Lewis veilig te stellen”

Paddy Lowe, de technisch directeur van Mercedes zegt dat ze aankomend weekend de titel van Lewis Hamilton binnen willen halen. Volgens Lowe is het mogelijk dat een Hamilton in deze vorm al bij zijn eerste kans de wereldtitel veilig kan stellen.

“Het is geweldig dat wij tijdens de vorige Grand Prix de constructeurstitel hebben veroverd. En dat al voor het tweede jaar op rij. De titel is zeer verdiend. De mensen in de fabriek hebben de laatste jaren uitstekend werk geleverd”, aldus Lowe.

De Brit vervolgt: “Helaas was het weekend niet helemaal een succes. Nico Rosberg moest al vroeg in de race opgeven. Tot op dat moment zag het ernaar uit dat wij op een dubbelzege aan het afstevenen waren. Zijn kansen op de titel zijn nu behoorlijk geslonken, maar als coureur moet je nooit opgeven.”

“Aan de andere kant gaan we er komend weekend in Austin alles aan doen om de wereldtitel van Hamilton veilig te stellen. Hij verkeerd in uitstekende vorm. Het is aan onze coureurs om dit tot een goed einde te brengen”, vervolgt de technisch directeur van Mercedes.

Lowe zegt blij te zijn terug te keren naar Austin. Hij noemt het circuit uitdagend en vermakelijk. “We komen al voor het vierde jaar op rij naar dit circuit. Het is een zeer interessante baan. De baan heeft veel hoogteverschillen en een goede combinatie van bochten. Het is op deze baan lastig om te gaan met de banden. Dat is een hele uitdaging. De fans hier worden elk jaar enthousiaster, Amerika begint de Formule 1 steeds beter te waarderen. Ik hoop dat we het Amerikaanse volk een mooie race voorschotelen.”

Ik hoop dat Hamilton nog den paar keer uitvalt, waardoor het kamioenschap in de laatste wedstrijd beslist gaat worden. Het beste zou zelfs zijn als het tussen drie coureurs zou gaan.
