COTA-baas: “Fans in Amerika groot liefhebber van Hamilton”

Bobby Epstein, circuitdirecteur van het Circuit of the Americas (COTA) zegt dat de autosport liefhebbers in Amerika groot fan zijn van wereldkampioen Lewis Hamilton. Volgens de circuitdirecteur loopt de kaartverkoop van de Grand Prix zeer goed, mede vanwege het huidige succes van Hamilton.

De Brit kan aankomend weekend in Austin zijn derde wereldtitel veilig stellen. Na de negende overwinning van Hamilton in Sochi staat de leider in het kampioenschap 66 punten voor op Sebastian Vettel en 73 punten voor op teamgenoot Nico Rosberg.

“Ik denk dat Lewis degene is waar op gelet gaat worden. De fans zijn erg opgewonden om hem te zien”, verteld Epstein. “Hamilton is erg populair hier in de Verenigde Staten. Hij is een vaak geziene gast hier, zoals afgelopen jaar in Las Vegas tijdens het gevecht van de eeuw tussen Pacquaio en Mayweather en andere evenementen. Hij heeft zich erg populair gemaakt door bij dat soort evenementen aanwezig te zijn. De mensen hier weten onderhand heel goed wie hij is. Het ‘merk’ Lewis Hamilton is het afgelopen jaar ontzettend gegroeid hier in de VS.”

Ook het naderende debuut van Team Haas en de deelname van Alexander Rossi zijn volgens Epstein goed voor de kaartverkoop van de race. “Rossi is de eerste Amerikaanse deelnemer aan de Grand Prix hier op deze baan. Het is voor de fans hier extra speciaal om een landgenoot te zien rijden tijdens de race.”

  Hij is wel een van de meest eerlijke die ik ken, het maakt hem niks uit wat mensen van hem vinden hij is zichzelf niet fake...dat zijn 2 verschillende dingen. Als je hem niet mag goed maar verstop je niet achter het "fake" argument.

  Ik weet niet of Lewis een eerlijk persoon is. Ik vindt het wel een goede coureur maar niet één van de buitencategorie. Maar het klopt wel dat Amerikanen van show houden en Lewis is wel een showbinkie ( helemaal onder getatoeëerd en bling bling oorbelletjes ) je moet er maar van houden.

Eens met theboss1998,

Kan me voorstellen dat men fan is, het is een persoonlijkheid. Ik heb persoonlijk ook niets met al die tattoeages maar dat doet niets af aan de persoon Lewis Hamilton. Denk dat het wel een oprechte knul is, alleen ja, hij houdt van show. Dat wil echter niets zeggen. Ben zelf ook vrij extrovert, maar dat maakt mijzelf volgens mij ook niet direct fake.

  Als ik Lewis hoor en zie krijg ik altijd het idee dat hij juist niet zich zelf is. Maar ja lastig oordelen. Het is niet dat ik(wij)hem echt kennen natuurlijk :P

Ik heb geen enkel idee van hoe oud de mensen hier zijn. Maar ik persoonlijk vind Lewis Hamilton wel degelijk een uithangbord van de sport. Vergeet niet dat dit de persoonlijkheden zijn die nieuwe fans naar de F1 zullen trekken. En zijn kapsels en tatoeages is gewoon een dingetje van de afgelopen jaren. Moet je eens kijken hoe sommige voetballers erbij lopen. Lewis Hamilton is gewoon, hoe je het ook wendt of keert een wereldster.

James Hunt wordt door vele fans gezien als een coureur die tot de verbeelding sprak, mede door zijn gedrag buiten het racen om. Ik zie het gebeuren dat men over een jaar of 20 op dezelfde manier over Lewis Hamilton praat, die dan ook nog eens minstens 3 wereldtitels heeft (even op de zaken vooruit lopend).

Daarnaast vind ik Hamilton wel degelijk een coureur van de buitencategorie. Natuurlijk heeft hij op het moment een hele dominante auto, maar het is wel een coureur die vanaf zijn (race)debuut altijd sterk heeft gepresteerd op 1 jaar na waarin hij zijn hoofd er niet echt bij leek te hebben.

En nee, ik ben geen fan van Hamilton, maar ik hou wel van dergelijke coureurs die op hun eigen (!) manier kleur geven aan de formule 1.

  Hij heeft veel lol buiten de baan maar wel in het oog van de camera.
  Niets mis mee.
  Als hij niet voor Ferrari had gestaan had ik hem best wel een leuke gozer gevonden... :)
