Charlie Whiting geeft circuit Mexico City goedkeuring

Volgend weekend zal de Grand Prix van Mexico op het circuit Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez plaatsvinden. FIA-racedirecteur Charlie Whiting heeft de baan na een laatste inspectie zijn goedkeuring gegeven.

“Ik ben erg tevreden met al het werk dat ze daar verricht hebben”, vertelt de Brit. “Ik verwacht daar een spectaculaire race.”

Er waren tijdens de laatste inspectie nog enkele problemen met het asfalt van het circuit. Weersomstandigheden zorgde voor wat vertraging, maar de baan ziet er nu prima uit.

Grand Prix-promotor Federico Gonzalez is erg enthousiast. Vooral het vernieuwde gedeelte in het stadion is een prachtig plaatje volgens de Mexicaan. “De coureurs zullen het baseball stadion inrijden voordat ze het rechte stuk op rijden. De coureurs zullen zich rocksterren voelen als ze het stadion binnenrijden. In het stadion zullen zo’n 28.000 fans zitten. De kaartjes waren binnen twee weken uitverkocht. De mensen hier hebben sinds 1992 moeten wachten op een race.”
