Austin is de verrassende nieuwe gastheer voor de Grand Prix van Amerika vanaf 2012. In de Texaanse stad verrijst een gloednieuw circuit, speciaal voor de Formule 1. Tavo Hellmund, manager bij promotor Full Throttle Productions, noemt Austin de ideale locatie.

Austin is meer Formule 1-publiek dan NASCAR-publiek. De geografie, het geld in de technologie, het nachtleven, de muziek, alles past perfect bij waar de Formule 1 voor staat. Texas heeft nog nooit een jaarlijks globaal sportevenement georganiseerd. Ik denk dat iedereen trots is en zal zijn bij de eerste race, aldus Hellmund in de Austin American Statesman.
