Financieel rampzalig weekend voor organisatie VS

Op de baan vond zondag een spectaculaire Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten plaats, maar achter de schermen voltrok zich een financieel drama. De bezoekersaantallen bereikten een dieptepunt in het vierjarige bestaan van het evenement en het noodweer zorgde voor een extra kostenpost.

De poorten voor het Circuit of the Americas gingen op een gegeven moment zelfs dicht. Bobby Epstein van de organisatie: "Het was een financieel rampzalig weekend voor het bedrijf. We zijn miljoenen aan inkomsten misgelopen aan wat bezoekers onder normale omstandigheden zouden consumeren. Daarbij komt nog dat fans afgeknapt zijn op ons evenement door de slechte ervaring van dit jaar, al hoop ik dat we ze nog op andere gedachten kunnen brengen."

Een andere nadelige ontwikkeling voor het evenement in Austin is de toevoeging van de Grand Prix van Mexico aan de Formule 1-kalender. Mexicaanse fans steken niet meer de grens over om in de VS de race bij te wonen. Epstein zegt in de American Statesman: "De Grand Prix in Mexico doet ons pijn."

Ze moeten proberen een korting af te dwingen bij Bernie, geen VT2, geen Q3 kortom niet de rij uren die ze normaliter wel krijgen. Dat dit door het noodweer komt is duidelijk, wellicht heeft Bernie ook een gevoelige kant!:)

    De fans die de race nu op tv in plaats van live hebben gezien weten dat het circuit de mogelijkheid tot epische races biedt. Die komen dus wel weer terug.

      Dat betwijfel ik. Denk dat het gros van deegenen die uren in de regen en scherpe wind kou geleden hebben, volgend jaar de race op TV willen volgen.
      Als ze dan de kwalificatie uitstellen kijk je even filmpje tussendoor en zap je daarna terug om te zien wanneer het echt begint.
      Als je daar staat en veel betaald hebt, kan je niks anders dan afwachten en je vervelen.

      Ik betwijfel het ook JH, je zag toch nog best veel lege of halfvolle tribunes op Zondag. Denk dat het regenachtige weekend en de GP van Mexico inderdaad deze GP geen goed gedaan heeft. Tel daarbij de woekerprijzen van de tickets op en je hebt een gegarandeerde misser te pakken. Ik heb het altijd een mooie baan gevonden, maar vrees dat ook deze poging met een paar jaar gaat stranden op de F1 in de VS op de kaart te zetten. Je hebt echt een volle bak nodig op zondag en een goed gevulde Zaterdag en Vrijdag wil je er geen verlies op draaien. Er zit ook geen belastinggeld in deze GP, dus ik ben benieuwd.

      Dat lijkt me ook meneer Hunt. Na dit noodweer denk je nog wel even een tweede keer na voordat je je naar het circuit begeeft...

      Ach ik ben al zo vaak natgeregend op Spa (een keer was ik zelfs tot op mijn ondergoed doorweekt) en toch blijf ik terugkomen.

      Bernie heeft daar geen horen aan wees gerust, these are the risks of the business zal hij zeggen, neem dan een verzekering voor dergelijke noodsituaties.

      Ben ik niet met je eens. Bernie verkoopt een show met een aantal onderdelen in die show. Als enkele onderdelen niet doorgaan heeft Bernie niet geleverd wat hij verkocht heeft. M.a.w. Bernie heeft een wanprestatie geleverd

    Dus zie het als een uitdaging inplaats van deze negatieve benadering. Creeer extra inkomsten, bied mensen meer. Maar f1 populair zou ik zeggen. laat je marketing afdeling goed werk leveren. Noodweer is overmacht.
