Vulkaanuitbarsting in de buurt van Mexico City

Na orkaan Patricia in de Verenigde Staten houdt nu een ander natuurverschijnsel de Formule 1 in zijn greep. Op 75 kilometer van het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City is een vulkaan uitgebarsten. De Popocatepl-vulkaan, beter bekend als El Popo, is actief.

De Telegraaf bericht dat een grote aswolk noordwaarts drijft. En net als in Austin bestaat ook in Mexico de kans op een nat weekend. Op dit moment lijkt de kans op regen het grootst voor de kwalificatie op zaterdag.

      Hoezo niet?

      Zou een geweldig surrealistisch beeld geven om de auto's door de grijs/zwarte neer dwarrelende as te zien racen. Door de hoogte is er al minder zuurstof en door de as nog minder voor de motoren.

      Ik zeg dat wordt een vermakelijke race!!!

    De Popocatèpetl ligt 70 km zuidoost van het circuit, en de weersverwachting voor zaterdag geeft zuidoostenwind aan...
    Zondag noordenwind dus de race zou goed moeten komen.

    Net zoals toen in IJsland, kan de as schade veroorzaken aan vliegtuigmotoren.
    Misschien knappen de F1 motoren er ook niet van op.

      @ RALPH2102: vliegtuigen kunnen neerstorten en daarom worden daar geen risico's mee genomen. Formule 1 wagens vliegen (normaliter) niet, dus zal het wel loslopen.

      Ook de redbuls blijven aan de grond, want ik vermoed dat dit een GP wordt van RedBull zonder vleugels.. Topsnelheid kunnen ze wel gebruiken.

      Dat klopt, maar F1 motoren zijn ook erg gevoelig en probeer er mee te zeggen dat als er echt zoveel as zal zijn, er misschien wel eerder wat kapot zal gaan.
      Zeker de turbo's zullen er niet van opknappen.

      In die tijd van IJsland legden ze uit dat as meer schade oplevert dan zand, omdat het koekerig wordt.
