Hamilton hoopt op Formule 1-race in Zuid-Afrika

Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton hoopt dat de Formule 1 binnenkort terugkeert naar Zuid-Afrika. Een Grand Prix in Zuid-Afrika staat ook hoog op het verlanglijstje van Bernie Ecclestone. Het Afrikaanse continent ontbreekt momenteel op het Formule 1-schema.

Hamilton ziet zichzelf al in Zuid-Afrika scheuren. "Ik zou graag in Zuid-Afrika racen. De Zuid-Afrikanen zijn dol op autosport. Het zou geweldig zijn. Er is een enorme fanschare in Zuid-Afrika en het is een van de belangrijkste locaties waar op dit moment geen Grand Prix is."

De kalender is met 21 races voor 2016 echter al overvol. Ecclestone wil bovendien meer races in de Verenigde Staten en praat ook met Argentinië. Hamilton krijgt geen genoeg van reizen en racen. "Dat is een van de mooiste aspecten aan een bestaan als Formule 1-coureur, dat je de hele wereld afreist. Het is zo leuk."
