Bottas: "Achtervleugel werkte bij crash niet naar behoren"

Valtteri Bottas werd tijdens de tweede vrije training in Mexico opgeschrikt door een heftige spin. De Fin ging in bocht één in de rondte, en verloor daarbij alleen zijn voorvleugel. Volgens de Williams-coureur was het incident te wijten aan de achtervleugel, die op dat moment niet goed functioneerde.

Op het moment van de spin begon Bottas met remmen, waardoor zijn DRS dichtklapte, maar leverde de achtervleugel niet de 'normale' hoeveelheid downforce. "Het gebeurde uit het niets," vertelt Bottas tegenover Motorsport.com. "We hebben uit de data kunnen zien dat de achtervleugel niet goed werkte."

"Ik was hierdoor erg verrast. Ik wist niet of het een remprobleem was of iets anders. De DRS klapte volledig dicht, maar alsnog voelde het alsof de vleugel open stond. We hebben daarna de hoek van de achtervleugel veranderd, en dat hielp. We hebben hier vaker last van gehad, maar wanneer je zo hard remt en met zo'n hoge snelheid rijdt, dan is dat niet goed. Ik heb mazzel gehad dat ik niet meer schade had."

Bottas hoopt daarnaast op droge omstandigheden, aangezien water het kleine beetje rubber van de vrijdag zo wegspoelt: "Er is weinig downforce hier, en daarnaast is het asfalt erg glad. Het is moeilijk de banden in de baan te laten 'bijten'. Ik hoop dat het droog blijft. Vooral de snelle bochtencombinatie in sector twee is erg goed, alleen missen wij daar op dit moment nog de grip."

  Als ik het weerbericht juist heb dan gaat het straks nog lichtjes regenen en is het droog tijdens de kwali maar wellicht is het laatste beetje rubber wel weggespoeld en komt het aan op stuurmanskunst, lef en het vermogen om rustig te blijven en niet over de grens te gaan.
  Kortom, ouderwets spannend!!

Sorry, regen is tig keer beter omdat de coureur dan meer uitmaakt dan de motor in de auto die je hebt. Ofwel regen ruled.
