McLaren beschikte in Brazilië over nieuwe diffuser

Het team van McLaren is nog volop bezig met de ontwikkeling van de MP4-30. Alle kennis over de huidige auto kan ook van pas komen bij de nieuwe bolide en dus introduceerde de Britse renstal in Brazilië enkele updates, waaronder een nieuwe diffuser.

Peter Prodromou is verantwoordelijk voor de nieuwe diffuser. De buitenkant van de diffuser bevatte twee verticale rijwindgeleiders, geplaatst onder een hoek van 45 graden. Het doel daarvan was om het destabiliserende effect van de achterwielen op de luchtstromen te verminderen.

Daarmee vergroot McLaren in theorie de efficiëntie van de aerodynamica aan de achterkant van de auto. Of dat daadwerkelijk zo was, is uit de resultaten niet echt op te maken. Ook de wegligging van de auto was afgaande op de commentaren van de coureurs niet opeens stukken beter.

Ik heb wel bewondering voor MClarenHonda, ze werken knetterhard, komen elk weekend met nieuwe updates. Het enige probleem is alleen dat die updates niet echt goed werken maarja.... Beter dan bij Renault waarbij de nieuwe motor gewoon 20PK minder vermogen heeft.

    Ik heb wel bewondering voor MClarenHonda, ze werken knetterhard, komen elk weekend met nieuwe updates. Het enige probleem is alleen dat die updates niet echt goed werken maarja.... Beter dan bij Renault waarbij de nieuwe motor gewoon 20PK minder vermogen heeft.

      Werkt niet elk team knetterhard en komt niet elk team met updates elk weekend?

      Feit is dat McLaren en Honda de nieuwe motor enorm hebben onderschat en dat het seizoen niet zo verloopt als gepland. De motor is én niet snel én niet betrouwbaar, daarbij komt ook nog dat de auto zelf ook niet de snelste van het veld is volgens mij. Tot slot versterkt het een het ander.

      Bijzonder frustrerend voor hun en ze kunnen niets anders doen dan volgas blijven ontwikkelen en hopen dat het volgend seizoen beter is.

    Had gehoopt dat ze met reuzestappen zouden verbeteren, seizoen is ten einde en zijn nog verre weg van de middenmoot... Deze winter weten ze wat doen, terug van nul beginnen

    Ik snap echt niet dat ze het lef hebben om hiermee naar buiten te komen. Die auto is in alle opzichten een aanfluiting!

      Inderdaad, waar hebben ze het lef vandaan om hun wagen te verbeteren.

      Praat toch niet zoveel poep. En dat je meent dat de auto in alle opzichten een aanfluiting is geeft ook nog eens aan dat het poep zonder substantie is. Het chassis is namelijk gewoon goed, en als Prodromou er voor volgend jaar helemaal zijn stempel op heeft kunnen drukken zal ie zelfs tegen uitstekend aan hangen. Het is afwachten of Honda en McLaren de engine problemen te boven komen. Het is ondertussen duidelijk waar de pijnpunten zitten en zijn op papier relatief makkelijk op te lossen. Maar dat zullen we pas in maart te weten komen.
