Lopez: "Akkoord met Renault is aanstaande"

In september tekenden Lotus en Renault een intentieverklaring waarmee de Franse autofabrikant dichterbij een terugkeer in de Formule 1 was. In september spraken beide partijen de wens uit om de deal zo snel mogelijk af te ronden, maar we zijn halverwege november en er is nog steeds geen deal. Volgens teambaas Gérard Lopez duurt het niet lang meer voordat de deal tussen Renault en Lotus officieel wordt gemaakt.

Lopez over de onderhandelingen en het uitblijven van een deal tot dusver: "We zijn bijna rond met Renault. Voor Renault zijn er nog een aantal zaken die opgehelderd moeten worden met de FOM. Voor zover we hier bij Lotus weten is de deal echter bijna rond." Lopez was in 2009 betrokken bij de overname van Renault door Genii Capital.

Ondanks de aanstaande overname van Lotus is Lopez gebrand om een rol binnen het team te behouden: "Ik ben zeker nog niet klaar met de Formule 1 en ook het team wil verder met mij. Als de deal rond is zal ik dus aanblijven. Ik blijf de eigenaar, maar niet zoals ik dat nu ben."

Bijna, eigenlijk, waarschijnlijk... Dat zijn zo'n beetje de meest gebruikte woorden in de soap. Het zal wel doorgaan natuurlijk, maar echt duidelijke taal eb ik nog niet gehoord.
