Williams-geldschieter duikt dieper in rode cijfers

Williams-sponsor Petrobras torst een immense en alsmaar groeiende schuldenlast met zich mee. De Wall Street Journal Europe bericht dat de Braziliaanse oliemaatschappij een schuld van 127,5 miljard dollar heeft. Daarmee is het de oliemaatschappij met de grootste schuldenberg ter wereld

Petrobras heeft de voorbije jaren veel geld geleend om de top vijf op de oliemarkt te gaan bestormen. In 2016 en 2017 lopen veel van die leningen af, voor een totaalbedrag van 24 miljard dollar. De vraag is wat Petrobras nu gaat doen; terugbetalen, herstructureren of failliet verklaren.

Per 30 september jongstleden stond de teller op 127,5 miljard dollar in het rood. Sarah Leshner Carvalho, specialist van Barclays: "Ik heb vanuit elke tijdzone belletjes gehad over de situatie bij Petrobras. Er is bijna geen gebied ter wereld dat geen obligaties in Petrobras heeft."

Aldo Muniz, hoofd onderzoek bij makelaarskantoor UM Investimentos: "We maken ons toch wel zorgen over de schuldenlast van Petrobras. Het is bijna eng hoeveel de waarde van de dollar de voorbije maanden omhoog is geschoten."

    Gelukkig voor Williams is het niet de hoofdsponsor, maar toch... 127 miljard dollar... Zoveel past niet eens in mijn oude sokken. ;-)

    Hoe hebben banken en investeerders het ooit zover kunnen laten komen? Graai gedachte misschien, veel risico maar veel winst als het goed gaat en als het fout gaat kost het me hoogstens me baan! Ach dan krijg ik toch nog steeds een oprotpremie.

    Komt voor een deel ook doordat ze geleend hebben bij een lage dollar koers, en de waarde van de dollar sinds die tijd behoorlijk is gestegen.

    Petrobras is druk bezig een failliesement voor te bereiden. Waardevolle zaken worden ondergebracht in bedrijven die buiten dit failliesement gaan vallen waardoor enkel een bijna lege BV failliet gaat. Ook het personeel wordt met dit doel tussen de BV's heen en weer geschoven. Hierdoor werkt het personeel waar men vanaf wil in de BV werkt die failliet gaat.

    Het probleem bij Petrobras, is zoals bij veel van dit soort gigantische bedrijven waar het fout gaat, corruptie en fraude. Zodra personen over veel geld beslissingen mogen nemen gaat het vrijwel overal mis, een fout in ons systeem. Maar een Formule 1 site is waarschijnlijk niet de juiste plek voor een discussie hier over :p

    Benieuwd of dit ook consequenties heeft voor Massa. Als de braziliaanse sponsor wegvalt, is er dan nog noodzaak om een braziliaanse coureur te hebben?
    Komt er een nieuwe sponsor die graag een coureur ziet die zijn achterban aanspreekt.

      Volgens mij was Petrobras een van de redenen waarom ze voor Massa kozen. De sponsor van Bottas stopt er ook al mee dus Williams zal een manier moeten vinden om extra inkomsten te genereren. Ik zie Maldonado nog wel een comeback maken, hij is erg geliefd binnen Williams ondanks dat ze destijds niet lekker uit elkaar zijn gegaan. Sir Frank noemde hem vorig jaar nog een van zijn meest favoriete coureurs en er was een lijstje waarop hij de overwinning van Pastor in de top 5 van momenten van Williams plaatste.
