Pensioen gloort aan de horizon voor Vijay Mallya

Vijay Mallya weet niet hoe lang hij nog door gaat als teambaas en eigenaar van Force India. De Indiase zakenman is in eigen land een paria nadat zijn vliegmaatschappij Kingfisher Airlines failliet ging. In de Formule 1 is zijn reputatie nog vlekkeloos.

Mallya stuwde Force India omhoog, stap voor stap. Dit jaar sluit het team af op de vijfde plaats bij de constructeurs, dat is de hoogste klassering ooit. Mallya is in gesprek met Aston Martin over een samenwerking, die gepaard zou gaan met een naamswijziging voor de Indiase renstal.

De vraag is hoe lang de 59-jarige Mallya daar nog deel van uitmaakt. Zijn pensioen gloort aan de horizon. "Ik stop nog niet, maar ik heb ooit gezegd dat je zodra je zestig wordt, moet nadenken over genieten van het leven. Het kan geen kwaad om daarover te denken", vertelde hij aan DNA India.
