Juncadella triomfeert bij 'Stars & Cars'

Het jaarlijkse Stars & Cars-event, georganiseerd door Mercedes als afsluiter van het raceseizoen, is gewonnen door de Spanjaard Daniel Juncadella. Het evenement is vergelijkbaar met de Race of Champions, daar het ook in een voetbalstadion wordt georganiseerd. Het strijdtoneel was het stadion van Vfb Stuttgart, dat uitkomt in de Duitse Bundesliga. Juncadella versloeg in de finale zijn DTM-rivaal Pascal Wehrlein met 2-0.

Juncadella had in de halve finale afgerekend met Nico Rosberg, terwijl Wehrlein drievoudig wereldkampioen Lewis Hamilton in de halve finale versloeg. Juncadella is vanzelfsprekend in zijn nopjes met de overwinning; "Dit voel goed. De auto waarin we reden, de Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, ligt mij erg goed en het duurde niet lang voordat ik in mijn ritme kwam. De opkomst bij dit evenement is echt ongelofelijk, ik op het circuit komen de fans niet zo dicht bij. Dit was een speciale gelegenheid voor ons als coureurs en de fans."

Ook de coureurs van het Mercedes Formule 1- team waren erg onder de indruk van de ambiance van het evenement. Rosberg: "Dit was echt gaaf om te doen. Om in een voetbalstadion rijden met racewagens is niet iets wat we iedere dag doen. Ik had graag in de finale willen staan, maar de DTM-coureurs waren mij en Lewis te snel af vandaag. Desondanks heb ik me erg vermaakt."

Ook een geweldig coureur die de weg naar de top van de open wheel niet heeft kunnen vinden helaas.

  Helaas niet want Daniel is een echte topper.
  Van carriere en verhaal een beetje vergelijkbaar met Alvaro Parente, Robin Frijns en Brendon Hartley.
