Hugo Hakkinen treedt niet in voetsporen vader

Hugo Hakkinen streeft geen loopbaan in de autosport meer na. Dat onthulde zijn vader en oud-coureur Mika Hakkinen in zijn blog voor McLaren. Hugo Hakkinen schreef zich in 2012 in voor een kartkampioenschap in Italië, maar hij kwam tot de ontdekking dat zijn passie elders lag.

Mika Hakkinen legt uit: "Hugo heeft de karting geprobeerd en hij was er ook wel bekwaam in, maar het was niet zijn passie. Hij is nu vijftien jaar en zijn passie is voetbal. Hij probeert het tot het professionele voetbal te schoppen en ik steun hem daarin."

"Ik heb er geen problemen mee dat hij niet geïnteresseerd is in een carrière als coureur en dat hij niet in mijn voetsporen treedt. Al zou ik hem ook gesteund hebben als hij dat wel geambieerd had. Je steunt je kinderen toch ongeacht wat ze willen doen."
