CEO Aston Martin: "Geen toetreding tot de Formule 1"

Force India had de afgelopen maanden de hoop financiele steun te kunnen krijgen van het beroemde automerk Aston Martin. Het Britse merk zou mogelijk naamgever worden van het team dat nu onder Indiase vlag racet, of het team in geheel overnemen.

De CEO van Aston Martin heeft echter bevestigd dat het niet toe zal treden tot de Formule 1 in 2016. Er hebben wel gesprekken plaatsgevonden over een mogelijke sponsoring, zo geeft Andy Palmer toe: "We hebben wel gesprekken gehad maar we hebben op dit moment geen interesse om in 2016 te investeren in een Formule 1-project. De enige interesse om deel te nemen aan autosport voor een merk als Aston Martin is om te laten zien over welke kwaliteit en technologie onze straatauto's beschikken. Ik zie niet in hoe wij dit kunnen doen in de Formule 1."

Deze CEO heeft zijn verstand gebruikt. Waarom een stoot geld pompen in een vehikel van een financiële charlatan zoals Vijay Mallya. Dat is dus geld weggooien. Daarnaast is zijn argument dat hij zijn straatauto's niet kan promoten volledig valide. Hulde voor deze man!

    Jammer, zou goed zijn geweest voor Force India want die zitten volgens geruchten al jaren in financiële problemen. Vooral vanwege tegenvallende resultaten bij de bedrijven van Mallya.

    Daarnaast had de intrede van Aston Martin wellicht ook de legendarische Gulf kleuren op de grid gebracht.

      Correct. Bovendien gaat het WEC reglement voor 2016 behoorlijk op de schop en daar is voor Aston Martin veel meer exposure te halen tegen een betere prijs als F1. Ik denk ook dat tussen het publiek wat in LeMans aan de baan staat meer potentiële AM kopers staan als in een heel seizoen F1 komen kijken. Ik denk dat Aston ook heel goed inzit dat het plakken van een branding sticker op een Mercedes aggregaat niet de juiste weg is om hun doelgroep aan zich te binden. Het lijkt me dat een Aston bezitter niet wil worden aangesproken met de vraag of de motor in zijn Aston ook uit een Mercedes komt... Blijft toch een beetje alsof je het zelf niet kunt...

    Een helderder en gezaghebbender statement dat F1 niets met straatauto's te maken heeft heb ik nog niet gehoord. Ha! Weer een lulsprookje de wereld uit geholpen.

      Goed lezen.
      Als sponsor kun je niet laten zien over welke kwaliteit en technologie Aston Martin beschikt.
      Dat zou wel kunnen als je als volledig Aston Martin formule 1 team opereerd, maar dat is niet het geval.
      En dat F1 auto's niets met straatauto's te maken heeft klopt, maar de technologie die wordt gebruikt in de F1 kan wel worden toegepast in straatauto's.

      Dit leest als "In welke rol dan ook, of het nu als sponsor is of anderszins."

      In tegenstelling tot wat menigeen je wil doen geloven zijn er zijn veel meer technologieën vanuit de auto-industrie richting F1 gegaan dan andersom. Voorbeeldje: de hybride auto bestaat al een jaar of tien. Omgekeerd zijn veel F1 technologieën nauwelijks bruikbaar in de gewone autowereld. Ik zie me bv nog niet in een Golf met een drag reduction system rijden.

      Dit lijkt mij te refereren aan allerlei vormen van samenwerking, niet alleen sponsorship. En ik kan 'm geen ongelijk geven. Spin-off van F1-technologie komt hooguit (en dan nog vaak op een geforceerde manier) in hypercars terecht, en die heeft AM niet.

    Ik vind het jammer dat Aston Martin nu Force India niet over neemt. Of er een rebadge komt. Het was ook te mooi om waar te zijn. Het is te hopen voor Force India dat ze toch ergens een kapitaal injectie krijgen.

    Anders wordt volgend jaar toch weer een moeilijk jaar. De ontwikkelingsrace gaan ze dan verliezen. Een geluk is dat ze een aardig deel aan prijzengeld krijgen. En Perez brengt geld in. Ik hoop dat dat ze voor uit brengt.
