Verstappen Senior verkiest zoon Max boven racen op Le Mans

Jos Verstappen zal komend jaar niet rijden tijdens de 24 uur van Le Mans. Verstappen Senior verkiest de ondersteuning van zijn zoon Max, die in maart aan zijn tweede seizoen in de Formule 1 begint, boven racen tijdens de beroemde langeafstandsrace. Na zijn laatste race in de Formule 1 en een uitstapje in de A1 GP deed Verstappen enkele keren mee aan de 24 uur van Le Mans. 

Bovendien zit ook de Formule 1-kalender in de weg voor Verstappen. De Formule 1-kalender van 2016 heeft het laten gebeuren dat de Grand Prix van Europa, komend seizoen in Baku (Azerbeidsjan) in hetzelfde weekend wordt verreden als de 24 uur van Le Mans. Jos Verstappen zal ook in Baku zijn om zijn zoon te ondersteunen. 

Verstappen over zijn keuze om niet in Le Mans te racen: "Rijden in Le Mans past voor mij komend seizoen niet. Momenteel concentreer ik me volledig op de begeleiding en ondersteuning van mijn zoon. Racen is Le Mans is altijd leuk en ik heb er nog steeds honger naar. Max is echter op dit moment belangrijker. Ik wil hem races zien winnen, hij wil uiteindelijk wereldkampioen worden."

    Niets negatief, hoe Jos Max begeleid doet hij geweldig naar mijn mening. Maar één raceweekend kan Max vast wel zonder Jos. Vind het beetje lullig voor de mensen met wie Jos de Le Mans zou gaan doen

      Ben het met je eens. Een weekend een keer geen handje vasthouden lijkt me eigenlijk alleen maar goed voor de ontwikkeling van Max. Maargoed, ze zullen het hier vast wel samen over gehad hebben en de aanwezigheid van Jos wordt erg gewaardeerd door Max en dat is zeker belangrijk.

      Het is niet zo dat je Le Mans kunt gaan rijden zonder voorbereiding.
      Dus het zal dan echt niet bij dat ene weekend blijven.

    Niets negatief, vindt het fantastisch hoe Jos Max begeleid in de F1. Maar Max kan toch ook wel één weekend zonder Jos. Vind het namelijk beetje sneu voor de andere twee die nu niet kunnen deelnemen aan Le Mans....

      Lijkt me sterk dat er niemand anders in de plaats van Jos wil rijden, dus die twee andere kiezen daar dan zelf voor. ;)
      Jos maakt zijn eigen carrière al jaren ondergeschikt aan zijn zoon, dus een jaartje meer of minder maakt ook niet uit.

      Als Max nou in bed ligt met zijn vriendin, dan wordt hij toch ook niet hele tijd in de gaten gehouden door Jos haha? Het lijkt mij niets om hele tijd op de hielen te worden gezeten door mijn pa. Een beetje vrijheid hebben kan geen kwaad ;)

      En als ik Max was, zou ik zeggen: Pap, ga lekker zelf een weekendje knallen, ik red me wel een keertje zonder je. De race erna ben je er toch weer!

    Begrijpelijke keuze uiteraard. Ik denk dat het ook voor Max fijn is om zijn vader om hem heen te hebben, al is het alleen maar om zijn ei kwijt te kunnen. Ik hoop alleen wel dat Jos hem uiteindelijk op tijd los kan laten. Nu is het de ideale situatie, maar binnen een paar jaar gaat dat toch anders zijn, zie Anthony Hamilton.

      Jos heeft al te kennen gegeven, dat wanneer hij denk dat Max niet veel meer te leren heeft, hij een stapje terug zal doen.
      Ondanks dat verwacht ik dat in de toekomst Jos de meeste races wel aanwezig zal zijn.
