Sauber-coureurs 'geen beste vrienden'

Zoals bekend kunnen Mercedes-coureurs Lewis Hamilton en Nico Rosberg elkaars bloed af en toe wel drinken. Beide bestoken elkaar regelmatig in de media, maar ook in de persconferenties in een Grand Prix-weekend. Ook bij Sauber is het niet altijd koek en ei tussen de coureurs, zo bekend Marcus Ericsson. Wel ziet Ericsson geen reden om in de toekomst niet beter bevriend te raken met zijn teamgenoot Felipe Nasr.

Ericsson en Nasr waren concurrenten in de seizoenen 2012 en 2013 in het GP2-kampioenschap. Ericsson maakte in 2014 zijn Formule 1-debuut bij het inmiddels ter ziele gegane Caterham-team, terwijl Nasr een jaar reservecoureur was bij Williams en nog een jaar GP2 reed. Beide rijders rijden sinds 2015 voor Sauber en zullen ook in 2016 samen de eer verdedigen voor het Zwitserse team.

Ericsson laat aan Autosport weten dat hij best onzeker was toen bekend werd dat zijn teamgenoot Nasr zou worden: "Toen we aan het seizoen begonnen wist ik niet wat ik kon verwachten, omdat Felipe Nasr en ik in de GP2 elkaar regelmatig zijn tegengekomen op de baan. We hadden enkele pittige gevechten en om om eerlijk te zijn, zijn we niet de beste vrienden. We werken wel goed samen. In de Formule 1 heb je weinig vrienden en dat is ook niet nodig."

De goede samenwerking tussen beide coureurs zou in de toekomst kunnen leiden tot een betere vriendschap: "We spreken veel met elkaar en helpen elkaar ook waar het kan. Dat is belangrijk, zeker in een team waar de geldkraan niet wagenwijd open kan staan." Ericsson geeft verder aan dat de twee een aanvaring kenden tijdens de Grand Prix van Amerika, maar dat de kou tussen beide coureurs snel uit te lucht was: "In Austin kwamen we elkaar tegen op de baan. We waren het beide niet met elkaar eens na de finish, maar we hebben er na de race over gepraat en daarmee is het afgesloten. Dat we er snel uit komen met elkaar is een goede zaak en ik ben blij dat ik komend seizoen weer teamgenoot ben van Felipe Nasr."

Laatste jaar met Nasr denk ik. Volgend jaar rijd Lance Stroll in de F1. (tenminste als hij zijn super licentie binnen heeft).
