Newey: "Regels voor 2017 gaan niet ver genoeg"

Red Bull-ontwerper Adrian Newey is sceptisch over de 'zogenaamde' revolutie die in 2017 in de Formule 1 plaats moet vinden. Diverse werkgroepen buigen zich al langere tijd over reglementen om de koningsklasse van de autosport via agressiever ogende en snellere bolides meer aanzien te geven. Dat resulteerde echter vooralsnog in weinig bruikbaars.

Dat is het oordeel van Newey in The National. "Reglementswijzigingen bieden een kans om iets anders te doen. Echter, de veranderingen waar men voor 2017 over praat gaan niet ver genoeg. De nieuwe regels verschillen niet drastisch van wat we nu al hebben. Iets bredere banden en iets andere aerodynamica, maar geen fundamentele ommezwaai."

"De motoren zijn allesbepalend in de Formule 1 op dit moment en dat is een zeer ongezonde situatie. Wat mij betreft is dat het grootste probleem van de sport. Mercedes en Ferrari hebben alles onder controle. Het is momenteel zo dat alleen hun fabrieksteams kans maken op zeges en titels. De klantenteams beschikken niet over dezelfde software als zij en hebben geen schijn van kans, terwijl Renault en Honda nog te ver weg zijn."

    Hij verteld alleen wat er staat te gebeuren, Mercedes en Ferrari proberen zo weinig mogelijk te veranderen en komen in januari samen met de andere fabrikanten met een voorstel. Ook deze zal voornamelijk in het straatje van de 2 grootste passen.....hopelijk steekt Bernie daar dan een stokje voor......De belangen van de fabrikanten staat lijnrecht tegenover de belangen van de F1. Wat mij betreft blijft RB de komende tijd dreigen en zo ervoor zorgen dat de verandering die nodig zijn daadwerkelijk doorgevoerd gaan worden!!! Wie wil er niet in de toekomst weer 26 wagens op de grid waarbij de langzaamst auto maximaal 2 tot 2,5 sec langzamer is dan de snelste, waarbij er stoeltjes zijn voor talent en niet alleen paydriver!!!!

    Het enige wat Newey wil is meer aero... En dat moet de F1 al helemaal niet willen. Minder aero en meer mechanische grip is wat de F1 nodig heeft.

    Wat vast staat, is de monopoly positie van de fabrieksteams en de underdog posities van de kleinere teams. Die kunnen met mazzel een keer een race winnen, maar zelfs voor Williams is het momenteel onhaalbaar om weer een topteam te worden, omdat de fabrikanten de dienst uit maken. Nummer 1 en nummer 2 teams. Never nooit niet dat als Honda bijvoorbeeld Williams als 2e team aanwijst vanaf 2017, dat zij top materiaal krijgen, gelijk aan McLaren, daar zijn de commerciële belangen te groot voor geworden.

    Zoals het er nu uitziet zullen alle teams een eigen motorfabrikant moeten aantrekken in de toekomst om nog een kans te hebben, want nu hebben MB & Ferrari de troeven in handen en laten de kruimels voor de rest

    Op een andere site is dit intervieuw iets uitgebreider geplaatst en stelt Newey daarin dat door de technische beperkingen het op dit moment zo is, dat als je alle wagens helemaal wit zou spuiten, alleen de echte kenners nog kunnen zien welke wagen van welk team is, terwijl in de jaren 70-80, er veel meer uiterlijke verschillen waren omdat elk team met zijn eigen inovatieve oplossingen kwam, en dus het aerodynamische gedeelte een veel grotere invloed had. Nu is het zo dat de motoren alles bepalen omdat er geen vrijheid mee is in het doorontwikkelen van de wagens op areodynamisch gebied, terwijl de motoren wel mogen worden doorontwikkeld (tokens)

    Ben het met Newey eens dat er veel meer vrijheid zou moeten zijn om nieuwe ontwikkelingen in te zetten.
    Door alle technische beperkingen is de F1 helemaal kapot gereguleerd.
