Dakar: Van Gerven in aanraking met een vogel

Soms komen de snelheden in Dakar erg hoog te liggen. Het is dan ook te hopen dat je geen onverwachte dingen tegen komt. Nog even snel bukken of corrigeren met sturen is met snelheden van boven de 100 kilometer per uur haast niet te doen. Jan van Gerven reed zo'n 130 kilometer per uur toen hij een zware klap tegen het hoofd kreeg. Hij schrok zich te pletter. Van Gerven had een vogel geraakt. Er was geen ontwijken aan.

De Nederlander verwijst ook naar een andere 'vreemde vogel' die al kilometers lang vlak achter hem reed. Ja echt vlak erachter want als Jan moest remmen of iets afremde om op zijn roadbook te kijken, botste die kerel steeds haast tegen hem aan. Van Gerven werd dat een beetje zat en zei er iets van. In het Engels want hij kende hem niet, maar hij sprak in elk geval geen Nederlands. "Die kerel zei dat ik me geen zorgen moest maken want hij had wel 10 jaar Dakar-ervaring." Van Gerven heeft hem toen gezegd dat hij dan maar beter voor hem kon gaan rijden als dat zo was. Dus zo ging het. Zijn bumperklever nam de kop over en vloog niet heel veel verder gigantisch uit de bocht. "Yes, yes, I can see ten years of Dakar experience, sure…", riep Van Gerven naar de andere deelnemer. Dat kon hij niet laten.

Met alle respect en ik wil niet klagen, maar 12 items in 3 dagen over Dakar 2016 en met die van mij erbij slechts 4 reacties tot nu toe. (16.37 maandag 5 januari).
Hartstikke leuk voor de liefhebber, maar het is natuurlijk een beetje 'out of the box'.
