De introductie van de zogenaamde screamer pipes

Het Formule 1-seizoen 2016 zou wel eens de terugkeer van blown diffusers kunnen markeren. Daar speculeert Red Bull Racing op in een stuk op de eigen website. Dit jaar moeten de teams namelijk één of twee extra uitlaten monteren. De bestaande uitlaat is uitsluitend bedoeld voor uitlaatgassen uit de turbine, de extra uitlaten moeten de wastegate afvoeren.

Dat zou het geluid ten goede moeten komen, zonder dat het ten koste gaat van het vermogen of de uitstoot. De extra uitlaten hebben al de bijnaam 'screamer pipes' gekregen. Artikel 5.8.2 van de Technische Reglementen schrijft voor: "Uitlaatsystemen mogen maar één uitlaat voor de turbine en één of twee uitlaten voor de wastegate bevatten. Alle uitlaatgassen dienen door deze uitlaten te passeren. Geen van de uitlaten mag zich in een andere uitlaat bevinden."

Volgens Red Bull Racing zou dit tot gevolg kunnen hebben dat de teams een of meerdere oplossingen verzinnen om de uitlaatgassen weer te benutten om downforce te genereren. De internationale autosportbond FIA heeft geprobeerd het zoveel mogelijk af te bakenen, maar de engineers zijn sluw en zullen vast op zoek zijn gegaan naar mazen in de wet.

      Hmm, ja en nee. @MAG Verslappen
      Ik denk het niet, want als teams de websites van concurrenten bekijken, dan zouden ze ook zaken als Sky Sports moeten checken en F1TECHNICAL.
      Ik weet nog goed, dat het er heel erg op leek dat de fans eerder achter de blowndiffusor kwamen dan de teams zelf, alleen al door interpretatie van alle media en berichtgeving omtrent RBR.
      En denk je niet dat team dergelijke zaken al ruim voor het einde van vorig seizoen hebben overwogen?
      De komst van deze ‘screamerpipes’is toch al zeker een half jaar bekend.
      Maar ik snap je gedachte alleen denk ik dat dit niet helemaal zo zal uitpakken.

      of Newey heeft al een systeem wat veel tijdwinst oplevert en zet het daarom online zodat de concurenten denken, als newey zegt dat het kan dan kan het waarschijnlijk niet

      Er is wel degelijk tijd mee te winnen, het is alleen de vraag of de FIA deze methodes gaat goedkeuren.

      Nee, dat is geen goed idee. De temperatuur die uit de uitlaat komt is zo heet dat de banden direct oververhit zouden raken, wat natuurlijk resulteert in veel minder grip en meer slijtage.

    Het is een interessant ontwikkelingstraject, een aparte, enkele of gesplitste wastegate uitlaat. Het zal weinig uitmaken mbt power output, maar het geluid wordt wel een stuk beter. En zoals Newey al aangeeft, het opent de deur voor het blazen van uitlaatgassen op de aerodynamische delen aan de achjterkant aangezien er geen beperkingen zijn op de positionering van deze wastegate uitlaat of uitlaten. Dit geldt wel voor de centrale uitlaatpijp die er al was.

      Jammer, ze hebben de positie van de wastegate uitlaten wel helemaal dichtgetimmerd..

      5.8.4 The last 150mm of each tailpipe must in its entirety :
      a) Form a thin-walled unobstructed right circular cylinder with its axis +/- 5° to the car centre line when viewed from above the car and between 0° and 5° (tail up) to the reference plane when viewed from the side of the car. The entire circumference of each exit should lie on a single plane normal to the tailpipe axis and be located at the rearmost extremity of the last 150mm of the tailpipe.
      b) Be located between 350mm and 550mm above the reference plane.
      c) Be located no more than 100mm from the car centre line.
      d) Be positioned in order that the entire circumference of the exit of the tailpipe lies between two vertical planes normal to the car centre line and which

      5.8.3 The cross-sectional area of the turbine tailpipe exit at the rearmost point of the turbine tailpipe must lie between 7500mm2 and 14000mm2, and the total cross-sectional area of the wastegate tailpipe exit(s) at the rearmost point of the wastegate tailpipe(s) must lie between 1590mm2 and 2375mm2. If there are two wastegate tailpipe exits they must be equal in area.

    Owjee daar gaan we weer wie gaat dit tienden opleveren en een rel veroorzaken. Hoop dat de FIA zijn werk goed gedaan heeft met het afbakenen van de regels, wel even genoeg controverse gezien.

      maar waarom zouden ze de regelementen moeten dicht timmeren op dit gebied? waarom niet vrijer laten en de engineers laten experimenteren, zoals SP zegt zou dit wat aan de rangorde kunnen veranderen, typisch des f1, regeltjes, regeltjes...

    Ik verwacht niet dat, mocht het legaal zijn, dit veel tijdwinst gaat opleveren. Doordat er zoveel mogelijk geregenereerd moet worden via de MGU-H staat de wastegate toch al niet veel open. Alleen in uitzonderlijke afblaassituaties. Denk bijvoorbeeld hard remmen vanaf volle toeren om bijvoorbeeld een bocht te nemen. Op het moment dat de bocht genomen wordt, en een blown diffusor dus zin heeft, is de druk al weg en wordt er weer geaccelereerd.

    Om diezelfde redenen verwacht ik niet veel meer geluid. Ik las ergens dat eerder deze wastegate gassen in het hoofdpijp uitkwamen en dat ze daar het geluid neutraliseerden. Dit word wel wat minder.
