Van der Garde ziet JOTA als opstapje naar 2017

Giedo van der Garde maakte gisteren bekend dat hij dit jaar voor JOTA Racing uitkomt in de Europese Le Mans Series. De Nederlander beschouwt dit als een kans om zich richting 2017 in de kijker te rijden bij de fabrieksteams in het World Endurance Championship. Dat verkondigde hij aan De Telegraaf.

Van der Garde: "Ik ben hartstikke blij dat ik met JOTA eindelijk weer aan racen toekom. Dat is voor mij weer even geleden, maar racen verleer je gelukkig niet. Ik doe dat al bijna mijn hele leven, maar ik kan inderdaad niet wachten om op het circuit weer eens vol gas te geven.  Ik denk bovendien dat het voor mij een mooie opstap kan zijn naar een rol bij een fabrieksteam in 2017."

De Nederlander maakt dit jaar zijn debuut in de 24 uur van Le Mans. "Voor mij is dat de slagroom op de taart. We hebben een sterk team waarmee we in de LMP2-klasse voor de winst kunnen gaan. En daar doe je het uiteindelijk voor."

    Alleen zo'n opmerking om je nieuwe team als stepping stone te gebruiken zou ik voor me houden. En zeker als je nog geen meter hebt gereden.

      Ligt er aan wat je betaald, als je genoeg betaald kan je je genoeg permitteren in de autosport! Want naast dat hij verreweg de meest ervaren coureur binnen dit team is (niet in LMP maar qua niveau) zal hij natuurlijk ook wel wat geld in het laatje brengen. Nu is de vraag alleen welk fabrieksteam hem dan in zal moeten lijven en wie ze daar voor de laan uit moeten doen. Want qua niveau zit het bij de fabrieksteams wel snor en zie ik Giedo niet als verrijking noch verarming. Beetje zelfde laken en pak met vele andere in de LMP1 qua niveau.

      Een beetje ambitie wordt in deze business wel gewaardeerd hoor, zeker van een voormalig F1 coureur. Het team en sponsors horen dit liever dan, "ik blijf hier nog jaren hangen".

      Aangezien de markt wel duidelijk moet weten dat hij voor 2017 voor zo'n positie beschikbaar is en hij dus die teams vraagt hem extra in de gaten te houden om hem in overweging te nemen voor 2017 is het wel een goede uitlating. Hij zit in de positie dat een open sollicitatie zijn enige reële kans is. Als hij direct goed gaat presteren dit jaar dan kan hij dat momentum meteen benutten, bij tegenvallende resultaten zal een hogere ladder telkens moeilijker worden.

      Ben wel benieuwd, gun hem het beste en ben blij dat hij bij een podium team zit zodat er reële mogelijkheden zijn om te presteren.
