McLaren kreeg vorig seizoen lesje in nederigheid

Het pijnlijke seizoen 2015 heeft het team van McLaren weer wat nederigheid bijgebracht. Dat stelt racing director Eric Boullier in gesprek met Autosport. McLaren sloot de vorige jaargang af op de negende positie bij de constructeurs. Alleen Manor F1 Team scoorde afgelopen seizoen minder punten.

Boullier: "McLaren is een groot team, Honda is een groot bedrijf en beide hebben een rijke geschiedenis in de autosport. Om het vertrouwen van de mensen intact te houden, geloofwaardig te blijven en de moraal hoog te houden, dat is zwaar als het niet loopt. Maar vorig jaar was een groot succes wat betreft het bouwen aan een mooie toekomst."

"Op een bepaalde manier heeft elk nadeel een voordeel, zo ook voor McLaren. Het heeft ons geleerd om nederig te zijn en gek genoeg is de sfeer binnen de organisatie altijd super geweest. Ik zeg niet dat men blij was met de resultaten, iedereen was gefrustreerd. De sfeer, de toewijding en het begrip waren echter enorm en dat is nog steeds zo."

    Werd eens tijd want McLaren en vooral Ron Dennis vinden zichzelf wel erg goed altijd.

    Ze krijgen al sinds 2013 lessen in nederigheid...

    Volgend jaar gaat vast een stuk beter, maar ik verwacht dat Alonso het aan het eind van het seizoen wel zat is en de helm aan de wilgen hangt of naar Renault gaat.

      Nou inderdaad. Ze hadden zo'n grote bek dat Hamilton maar gewoon bij ze moest tekenen omdat hij toch niets beters kon vinden en toen hij weg was stortte de hele zooi daar nog verder in.

      Vooral Whitmarsh was daar debet aan wat mij betreft (geen leide maar slappe hap), maar hem vervangen door Boullier met Ron Dennis op de achtergrond erbij heeft ze ook nog niet veel gebracht.

      Ach wie weet heeft Honda het voor volgend jaar wel goed op de rails en doen ze weer leuk mee. Zou Alonso wel weer eens willen zien vechten om de winst.

      @F1osaurus, dat McL in een neerwaartse spiraal zou komen zat er al aan te komen, zeker toen Mercedes Brawn overnam en McL gedegradeerd was tot klantenteampje.
      De boel stortte niet in omdat Lewis weg was, Lewis zag tijdig in dat hij beter het zinkende schip kon verlaten en tekenen bij Mercedes waarbij het duidelijk was dat ze binnen een paar jaar in wk winnende positie kwamen, dat is de beste beslissing die hij ooit genomen heeft.
      Toch zie ik McL wel weer spoedig opkrabbelen, ze hebben tenslotte fabriekssteun van Honda, op termijn zal ze dat wel helpen.
      Wie er achter het stuur zit maakt maar weinig uit, Als een Alonso er niet aan kan in een McL dan kan Lewis of Vettel er ook weinig mee

    Boullier en McLaren, ik blijf het maar een vreemde combinatie vinden. 2015 was misschien het slechtste jaar sinds het einde van de vorige McLaren-Honda periode 1991, maar de laatste 25 jaar met maar 3 WK's heeft McLaren's DNA geen greintje veranderd.. Ron Dennis en nederigheid gaan niet samen.
