Michelin: "Tijd begint te dringen voor nieuwe bandenleverancier"

Het besluit over de opvolging van bandenleverancier Bridgestone in 2011 is nog steeds niet gevallen. Pirelli zou de meeste kans maken, maar ook Michelin is nog een gegadigde. Haast is geboden. Niet alleen hebben de teams data nodig bij het ontwerp van hun nieuwe auto's, ze willen ook nog een speciale test inlassen. Bovendien heeft ook de nieuwe bandenleverancier tijd nodig om zich voor te bereiden.

Michelin-motorsportbaas Nick Shorrock dringt dan ook aan op een snelle beslissing. Sinds mijn reis naar Istanbul waar ik de teams verder informeerde over de details van ons aanbod heb ik geen feedback meer gehad. Ik verwacht nog wel wat. Maar de tijd begint te dringen om een product te fabriceren dat consistent, goed en veilig is. Michelin beschikt over veel ervaring in verschillende raceklasses en de lange afstand racerij geeft ons een goede basis om een band te ontwikkelen. Maar hoe eerder er duidelijkheid komt, hoe beter. Als het in de komende weken niet gebeurt, dan wordt het een lastig verhaal. Rond deze tijd schakelen teams over naar de auto voor 2011. Wanneer je niet binnen bent in juni of juli, dan ga je een worsteling tegemoet.
